What Feminism Means to Me

“You want a revolution? I want a revelation.” - Hamilton: An American Musical

A lot of women - or people in general - have specific reasons why they choose to identify as a feminist.

I never really had a moment where I decided that I was a feminist. It was always a part of my identity, whether I knew the term or the history or the reasons why I should be one. I was raised by a strong woman to be a strong woman myself. My mum has never taken crap from anyone, much less a man insisting their dominance over women. She worked in an all-male warehouse and she was their manager. I think that growing up and seeing her in her office sort of solidified who I was meant to be. I’ve always thought girls had every right to be taken as seriously and treated the same as boys. Thankfully, that’s not something I ever had to wrestle with and I’m so grateful to have had a role model like my mum in my life.

It wasn’t until high school that I really came to grips with what it was that I was really standing for. Until then, I hadn’t been introduced at all to the concept of feminism. Funny enough, it was Tumblr that introduced me to feminism. Actually, it introduced me to a lot of human rights movements. The more I saw posts about this concept ‘feminism’, what it meant, and most importantly, why it existed, the more angry I got. Why were women subjected to this treatment? Why had women been fighting for so long and yet nothing had changed?

Simultaneously, I was reading about the Black Lives Matter movement and the mistreatment of POC. I was 13 years old when Trayvon Martin was murdered, so I was introduced to that at a very young age and it stuck with me ever since. Feminism has always been intersectional to me. I read once this quote in an essay by Flavia Dzodan that said, “My feminism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit.” That’s exactly how I’ve always viewed feminism. I didn’t know what the term “intersectional” was until I took a women’s history course in university, but I understood that feminism is not for just white, straight women. It’s for POC women, lesbian women, trans women, EVERY woman out there, no matter what.

In recent years, being a feminist has become a more important part of me. Being a teen and then entering adulthood in the midst of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements made it crucial for me to recognize who I am, and what I expect from this world and other people. As much as I hate that women are still fighting all these years later, after the suffrage movement and the women’s liberation movement, I’m slightly grateful that I’ve been able to witness it firsthand as it’s given me opportunity to take a stand. Every woman out there has had some experience where they’ve been sexually harassed and that’s just ridiculous to me.

Feminism has evolved over the years, and has come to include all women from all walks of life and all backgrounds. As a white, cisgender woman, I don’t experience nearly half the pain that other women do. I never will. However, I think it’s up to me and other women like me to bring attention to these women and their suffering, and to make the world pay attention. We have to be allies. If we’re out here only protecting ourselves, or women who look like us, then what is it all for? I take every opportunity to learn more about women’s history, paying particular attention to those who weren’t white, middle-class women. Being only 20 and having only spent about a quarter of my life aware of what’s going on in this world, it’s been a massive learning process but I’m happy to do it.

While my influence on the world might be very minimal, at least I’m doing something. If everyone out there did the same, it would make a massive difference.

Get To Know Me in 30 Questions

me france .jpg

Hello everyone!

It's been some time since I've done a sit-down, chat about me sort of post. And I realized that a lot has changed in the last while - since my last "get to know me" post, I've switched platforms and gained 500+ followers on Instagram (!!!). Which means there's a ton of you that are new(ish) to the blog and might not know me as well as some older readers. So, today I thought I'd do a little 30-questions questionnaire to give you guys a bit of a look at the gal behind the blog!

Without further ado...

1. What is your middle name? I haven't actually got a middle name! My first name is Felicia-Rene, which is plenty.

2. What is your favourite colour? It changes pretty frequently.. Lately, I've been loving millennial pink (who hasn't?). But I also love maroon which is luckily one of my school colours.

3. Who was your first best friend? I had a best friend in junior kindergarten named Brianne. We used to hang out in my basement and put on play make-up all the time, haha

4. How tall are you? 5'4", which is on the shorter side. It's pretty odd, as my parents are both fairly tall so I don't know where my height comes from!

5. Cats or dogs? Dogs, dogs, dogs. I'm allergic to cats, so there's that, but I also prefer pups because of how playful they are.

6. Funniest moment throughout school? Oh god, honestly, I couldn't remember just one. A lot of my best high school memories include my boyfriend, even before we were dating. He always used to give our mean math teacher a hard time which was pretty hilarious. He sat in the back corner, in between a desk and a cabinet, and constantly made smart comments at the teacher.

7. How many countries have you visited? I've visited U.S.A., England, France, and a number of Caribbean islands! But there are so many more countries I'd love to visit someday.

8. Are you in/gone to college? Yep, I'm currently attending McMaster University, where I'm studying English and Cultural Studies. I started back in 2016 and as I mentioned in a blog post, I recently took a year off so it won't be awhile until I graduate!

9. What was your favourite/worst subject in high school? My favourite subject in school was, obviously, English, and my worst subject was math. I was pretty decent in math up until high school, but I had a bad teacher two years in a row and it was game over after that. I can hardly do simple math anymore, haha.

10. What is your favourite drink? I'd have to say strawberry or raspberry lemonade! So delish :)

11. What is your favourite animal? I have two! Dogs and giraffes.

12. What is your favourite perfume? Recently, my favourite perfume has been the Marc Jacobs Honey scent. It's so lovely and not too over-powering, which I definitely prefer.

13. Tea or coffee? Coffee, always! I've tried on several occasions to drink tea and have failed. I just can't bring myself to like it!

14. What would you (or have you) name your children? I have a couple names stashed away in my mind but I'm super paranoid about talking about them, because I'm worried that it'll give people ideas! If you've ever seen Friends, you get where I'm coming from!

15. What sports do you play/have you played? Zero, zilch, nada. Sports and I do not make a good team (haha sports pun). I did, however, do a week-long soccer camp with my friends in elementary school and I spent the week crushing on a guy in the camp. When it came to playing actual games, I sat down in the middle of the field and picked dandelions lol

16. What is your favourite book? Ohh please don't make me choose! I have a ton. "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, "Under Rose-Tainted Skies" by Louise Gornall, "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell... The list goes on and on.

17. Who are some of your favourite bloggers/YouTubers? For bloggers, I love Amber Fillerup, Kait Killebrew, and Poppy Deyes. But for YouTubers (which, by the way, I love YouTube), I always enjoy watching Cole & Sav, Jess Conte, TheTimTracker, and Madelaine Pestch!

18. What is your favourite movie? If you've been following my blog for awhile, then you probably already know this: it's Moulin Rouge. I loved it as a kid and was re-introduced to it when I started high school. It was even the first movie that my boyfriend and I watched together when we hung out together for the first time as a couple.

19. Are you single or taken? I can happily say that I am taken! I've been in a relationship with the loveliest man on earth since 2013.

20. What's your current hair colour? Currently, it's dark brown with blonde highlights.

21. What is your favourite season? As much as I love summer, with the hot weather and the beach and the sun, I am partial to autumn. It's such a beautiful season with all the lovely foliage and everything is so crisp and heavenly!!!

22. Favourite memory from childhood? Basically, all my memories from Disney World but also from this resort called Sherkston Shores in Ontario. My family used to visit often and I loved it so much. We used to make s'mores and sit by the fire and go mini-golfing. I'd love to go back!

23. Do you speak any different languages and how well? I speak some French. Very little or, as the French say, un petit peu. I took French in school for 8 years but it obviously didn't stick. I can say basic things and know enough to get by, but that's all.

24. Do you have any siblings? Nope, I'm an only child.

25. How would you describe your fashion sense? Honestly, it's a bit of everything, but mostly very "feminine" and somewhat retro-inspired. Big mid-length skirts are my fav!

26. What is your favourite restaurant? Okay, everyone always judges me so hard for this, but my favourite restaurant in Canada is called "Jack Astor's". They sell the best nachos ever and I always get the asiago chicken bowties because they are the closest thing to heaven. They also have the best alcoholic drinks ever! As for American restaurants, my fav is Shake Shack bc I'm a burger fanatic.

27. What are some of your favourite tv shows? I have a billion, honestly. My favourites right now are Gilmore Girls, Downton Abbey, Brooklyn 99, and New Girl. But I also always love me a good throwback sitcom - Friends, Frasier, Will & Grace, Golden Girls to name a few.

28. PC or Mac? Mac, for sure. My entire life exists on Apple and iCloud.

29. What phone do you have? I have an iPhone 8+ in gold!

30. Tell us one of your bad habits. Ugh one of my worst habits is playing with my hair. I can't stop touching my hair! A lot of the time, I'll be wrapping a piece of my hair or bangs around my finger and I don't even notice it. It's a major nervous habit for me.

That's all for now! Thanks for following me and my life on my blog and social media. It's nice to get to know you guys! If you want to keep up with my day-to-day life, you can follow my Instagram or Twitter

Love you all lots.

2018 Goals

img_1012.jpg

I don't believe in New Year's Resolutions. I feel like every year, we create these expectations for ourselves that we make ourselves feel horrible for when we don't stick with them. However, I definitely believe in writing out a few things I'd like to try to accomplish with the span of the year. For me, goal-setting can be really beneficial to my overall success so, here are the goals I'm setting for myself this year.

Create - and stick to - a TBR list

Oddly enough, considering how often I read and how much I enjoy it, I've never actually prepared a proper TBR list. Weird, right? I'm the kind of person to buy a new book I want to read, then put it on my evergrowing pile of unread books and reread the Harry Potter series for the billionth time instead. But not this year. I've already gone ahead and created my first-draft TBR list - which I'm sure will be added to once my favourite authors start to release new novels!

Declutter my wardrobe

It's time. It's time to say goodbye to the fraying, stretched-out pair of jeans I wear way too often and should've tossed months ago. It's time to part ways with the terribly worn out sweater I've owned since I was fourteen. I always hate to go through my wardrobe and declutter, as I hold onto everything because of sentimental value. But since I moved, my closet space is a third of what I used to have and now I have to share the space with my boyfriend - so it's time. Luckily, there are some things that I don't need that are still in good shape that someone else might need that I will be donating.

Reading challenge

This year, I'm challenging myself to read 50 books. Yes, you read that right. Fifty. Five zero. It seems crazy, I know, but I think I can do it! Goodreads allows you to set a goal and then once you record the books you've finished on the app or site, they add that book to your goal. I did this reading challenge for the first time last year and exceeded my goal of 17 with ease. This year, I'm up for a real challenge.

Rediscovering my creativity

This last year was a bit of a dud for me when it comes to writing. I had my heart set on making major progress on my novel, but it never happened. I was feeling a complete lack of inspiration. So, this year, I'm ready for a new creativity boost. I am convinced that comes from broadening my horizons. That means new spaces for writing, new adventures, and new experiences.

Respect the skin

The first half of last year, I did not stick to a skincare routine at all. I treated my skin like crap, if I'm honest. I finally started to treat my skin with some respect in the last few months of 2017 and I could almost immediately see the difference - my acne was disappearing and my stubborn acne scars have almost vanished. I've definitely learned my lesson. I'm carrying this skincare routine on over to 2018 and sticking to it for good.

1 Second Everyday

I am a big fan of the 1 Second Everyday app. I think it's a really cool idea. If you've never heard of it, it's an app where you take a one-second-long video every day and then you can put the videos into a compilation - pretty explanatory, right? I first heard of it from Zoella on Twitter about a year ago (who has since posted a video from 1 Second Everyday to show her year of being twenty-six). I'm determined to post a second every day for the entire year!

Focus on my health

I have the worst immune system. Ever. It's honestly awful. I've always had a poor immune system and this year, I'm going to be taking steps towards improving my that as well as my overall health. It's time to def get my health into check!

Happy New Year's to all!

Friday Thoughts: Love Actually + Approaching Holidays

img_0495.jpg

Happy Friday everyone, welcome back! Hope you've all had a fabulous week. This week has been chock-full and so exciting, I'm excited to share it with you all!

  • I hate road closures whilst driving. Detours make me so uneasy - I just don't like not knowing where I'm going. I had to drive my bf to his exam on Saturday and I pulled up to the main road I take to school to find it was closed all weekend. So, I followed the detour, whilst screaming. I genuinely had a moment of panic like "oh my god my bf is going to miss his exam" - despite the fact that we were like two hours ahead of schedule. I basically looked like this:
  • We got our first real snowfall of the season!! I've been dying for a good snowfall for like ages (I even mentioned this in last week's Friday Thoughts). It's been so lovely to drive around and see that thick blanket of snow on the ground and on rooftops. It was the good, fluffy kind of snow, too.
  • My mum and I had a girls' night out on Monday evening to see Love Actually play at the VIP movie theatre in Burloak. At first, I was worried we may not even make it, as there was a ton of traffic due to the snow. But all was well. It was a great evening of laughter and a few fun drinks.
  • CHRISTMAS IS NEXT WEEKEND!!! WHAT?? Next week is gonna be crazy busy. My boyfriend and I've got exams to finish up, we're seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theatres (any Star Wars fans out there?), we're having dinner with my bf's parents, and we're having dinner with my parents and grandma. My boyfriend goes home Friday for his own family Christmas celebrations and then Sunday is Christmas eve!!! Time's going by so quick. Hopefully, I'll have a moment of peace to fill you guys in on how it all goes.
  • Did anyone catch Harry Styles on tv being particularly cute whilst filling in for James Corden on his talk-show?? I watched a bit online afterwards. Nearly six years since I first was introduced to One Direction, and I still find Harry so adorable.

Have a great weekend everybody! Hopefully, you all have a relaxing weekend ahead of ya :)

Friday Thoughts: Harry Potter + Snow

Happy Friday to you all! Another Friday... jeez, before we all know it, it will be Christmas Eve. Who's excited for Christmas!? I know I am. Seeing all of the Blogmas posts from blogs I follow has only amplified my excitement. Maybe I'll have to partake in Blogmas next year....? We'll have to wait and see! But, for now, here's my weekly update for you.

  • I've started to re-read the Harry Potter series! I'm not really sure why, but I suddenly got into a very Harry Potter mood this week. I watched the first and then the final films last night, and today I've been lounging around in my Ron Weasley sweater, reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I'm already onto Chamber of Secrets lol
  • A few weeks back, on Black Friday weekend, I ordered two vinyl records from Urban Outfitters as there was a ridiculous sale on records (something like "buy one, get one 50% off"). SO I ordered the Moulin Rouge and the 500 Days of Summer soundtracks. Flash forward to this week, they still hadn't sent a shipping confirmation or anything so I started to panic. Then they said 500 Days of Summer was back-ordered. So Moulin Rouge unexpectedly arrived yesterday afternoon. And today, 500 Days of Summer arrived... along with another copy of Moulin Rouge hahaha, so I guess I have two copies now??
  • Exam season is upon us! I get lucky every time, being an English major who takes a lot of online classes and classes that prefer final papers over exams - I only get two or three exams per term. But my boyfriend isn't so blessed. He has two exams tomorrow, one mid-day and then the other at night. So tomorrow will be a sucky day for him :(
  • There is snow expected for tomorrow and I could not be any more excited. I love the first good snowfall of the season. I've been eagerly awaiting our first snowfall for weeks now, after a fifteen-min snow tease last month. My family thinks I'm nuts (they're not snow lovers). I don't even really like snow. I just like it in December, but once Christmas is over, I'm like bye.
  • I'm getting very excited for my trip to Florida. We live Christmas day, as usual, and I can't wait to see all that Disney has in store for this magical Christmas season. I truly believe that Disney wins when it comes to holiday decor. I just love to see all their decorations - I promise to share it all with you guys!

Friday Thoughts: Twinkling Lights

img_0402.jpg

Welcome back, everyone! So sorry I missed posting yesterday. I got so caught up in a million things I've been doing lately, that it totally slipped my mind that it was Thursday! But, it's Friday, and that means it's time for a weekly update.

  • My house has been full of Christmas spirit and excitement as we prepare for our big Christmas party next weekend. There is so much more work put into throwing a party than it may appear from the eyes of a guest! Despite all the hard work, I can't wait to have all of our friends and family over to celebrate the upcoming holiday season.
  • We took part in our very first town Christmas celebration on Thursday. Every year, the town we've moved to throws this event called Light Up Night, where everyone gathers in the park and sings carols, then at 7pm they flick a switch and light up a bunch of Christmas lights. It was so much fun. Everyone was so genuinely happy to be there together. The decorations were adorable. There were even volunteers handing out Tim Horton's hot chocolate for free, which was so thoughtful. I'm so happy to be living in this town. Walking down the main street, past windows of Christmas decorations, made me really grateful for this move. I can absolutely see myself living here for a very long time and also raising a family here.
  • My mum and I started watching Mindhunter on Netflix, and so far I'm really enjoying it. We're only a couple episodes in so far but it's super intense and absolutely fascinating. My mum and I are huge true crime nuts, so to see the characters interact with actors portraying real criminals is so interesting to watch.
  • I've been loving how many Christmas films they've been playing on television lately!! I'm getting sooo excited. It's a month till Christmas after all!!
  • I received a book in the mail this week!! I always love when packages come earlier than expected, and this one came about a week early. It's called My True Love Gave to Me and it's a collection of 12 holiday-themed short stories by a bunch of YA authors, including some of my favourites like Rainbow Rowell and Stephanie Perkins. So far, I'm absolutely loving it!!

That's all for this week. Have a fab weekend!!

Friday Thoughts: Films and Winter Hand Soaps

img_0191.jpeg

Hello, hello, hello everybody! I have no idea how we've reached yet another Friday.  Anyway, I'm not complaining, as another weekend is upon us - woo!! But before I can begin to celebrate the weekend (aka sleep), here's my weekly Friday Thoughts update for you all!

  • Earlier this week, my family, boyfriend, and I saw Murder on the Orient Express at our nearest movie theatre (which is actually forty mins away haha). We all absolutely loved it! Kenneth Branagh did a fantastic job in this film, as did the rest of the cast. I was seriously impressed with the filmography, the storyline, and the acting of the film. I can't wait for it to be released on DVD.
  • I went a little bit Bath & Body Works crazy this week... My boyfriend had offered to buy me a few hand soaps, as we were running out of the last bunch we'd purchased a few months ago. But they had a huge "buy 10 for $25" promotion, and my boyfriend never ignores a good deal sooo..... guess who has 10 new wintery scented hand soaps??? Haha
  • Finally, the world and I are starting to synchronize in preparing for Christmas. The buses in Hamilton are starting to read "Seasons Greetings/Merry Christmas", I went to a mall tree lighting, and my town has put up a ton of lights and decorations for our big holiday celebration next week. I don't feel so ahead of myself anymore!
  • My boyfriend kindly bought me an adorable 12-pair set of Christmas-themed socks off Amazon and gifted it to me on Monday. Choosing which Christmas socks to wear is a big deal to me now... Never thought I'd say that lol
  • I watched 500 Days of Summer for the first time in, like, four years. I forgot how much I loved it. The "You Make My Dreams Come True" scene puts me in the best mood - it honestly has me giggling out loud, especially when he sees his "reflection" in the car and it's Harrison Ford lmao.
  • We've nearly finished decorating the house for Christmas! We have two trees left to trim (yup, two) and then all we have left to do is wait for the holidays!! Eeeeee I'm so excited - can you tell? Haha
  • On Tuesday, my family popped into our favourite store at the mall in Hamilton: Cinema. Cinema is a dvd shop - one of the last, might I add - that has sooo many movies and especially ones you'd never think of. We bought a three-movie pack that had in it Love Actually, Holiday Inn, and The Family Man.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Bedside Essentials

img_0360.jpg

I'm a total night owl. Waking up in the morning for me is absolute hell, but that's probably because I'm up until 3-4am the night before. It takes soo much to get me to fall asleep at a decent time so when I find out I have to be up super early the next morning, I have a whole system to coax me to sleep. With this comes a collection of products/items that I cannot live without, which permanently reside on my bedside table.

img_0361.jpg

A book

If I'm having trouble falling asleep, one of the only things that can help me get tired. (On the other hand, I also sometimes stay up all night to finish a book... but anyway). Currently, I'm reading All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven at night. I can only read young adults novels at night. I find any other genre keeps me wired, as I'm too enthralled in the novel.

img_0362.jpg

Nighttime Face Cream

Nighttime skincare is so important as I'm sure you know and I'm sure I've said about a billion times. I have been using the e.l.f Nourishing Night Cream since the beginning of the summer and it feels so lovely on. The scent is also very relaxing which def helps me calm down at night.

Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Room Spray

This is more aimed towards stress/anxiety, but I find it is also very soothing and useful for the issue of insomnia. You just spray two bursts of this in your room, perhaps over your bedding, and let it work it's magic. It seriously does wonders for me.

Lush Sleepy Lotion

This is a new purchase for me but it definitely deserves to be on this list. I've only used it once but I'm already super impressed. You've probably heard already heard of this lovely product and the rave reviews it's gotten from people with insomnia, anxiety, and chronic illnesses. It works so quickly to help you sleep naturally. Not to mention it makes your skin feel so freaking soft. Thank you, Lush!!

What essentials do you keep close to your bed?

Friday Thoughts: Busy, Busy, Busy

img_6799.jpg

Happy (sorta) Friday everybody! I know, it's technically Saturday by the time I publish this post and I'm so sorry for it. I'm also terribly sorry for the lack of a post yesterday. Seems I've been far busier this week than I imagined I'd be. But, as they say, better late than never! Without further ado, here is my weekly update.

  • This week, I saw The Holiday for the very first time and I immediately wondered, "Why the hell have I not watched this before?!". I am a total sucker for young Jude Law and Kate Winslet is one of my fave actresses, so it was a perfect film for me. I will definitely be adding it to my Christmas film repertoire.
  • After many weeks of barely reading, I finally felt the first urge in a long time to dive into a novel and I read an entire novel in less than 24 hours. It felt soo good. The book in question was Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, a beloved author of mine. It was so witty and spectacular and adorable. Just the thing to get me out of my reading funk.
  • I had never considered the idea of a liquid eyeshadow before, save for the creamy-liquid eyeshadow I owned when I was a young girl (I think it was Mary-Kate and Ashley brand?). But when I stumbled upon the e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Molten Liquid Eyeshadow at the beginning of this week, I had to give it a go. Liquid eyeshadow? Bizarre, right? But I actually kind of love it? It is ridiculously easy to apply, cutting down my eyeshadow application time to a bare minimum which I love. Plus, the rose gold shade is gorgeous. And it's super inexpensive. Total win.
  • Finally, after a long time of disappointment, one of my favourite Christmas songs was re-released on Spotify and it was the greatest surprise ever. In case you're wondering, it's the Sleeping At Last cover of the Love Actually classic, "Christmas Is All Around". It's the kind of song that makes me want to drink peppermint hot cocoa in front of a fire, with the Christmas tree lit and garland hanging from all over.
  • NaNoWriMo is not going as planned... I'm desperately behind in terms of my daily word count goal and it doesn't appear that I'll be able to meet the deadline. But somehow I'm not disappointed? I feel like this challenge has given me the opportunity to really get serious with my writing, so at least something is coming out of it.
  • The holiday season is upon us! And with it, the busiest time of year for me. Starting Monday, I'm entering a crazy busy schedule. It seems that every few days, I've got plans. Town events, family activities, movies to see (more on that), company coming over, etcetera etcetera etcetera... I'll barely have time to catch my breath!
  • Speaking of movies, I have quite the line-up of movies to see in theatres during the next couple months. Murder on the Orient Express, The Man Who Invented Christmas, Love Actually, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I'm jam-packed with movies but I am sooooooo excited for it all. I love seeing films in the theatre. It's such a fun feeling.

Hopefully, despite my busy schedule next week, I'll be able to stick to my blog post and get out 3 proper posts. I wish you all a very lovely weekend and will see you back here on Tuesday :)

Baking Apple Crumble

img_0225.jpg
img_0227.jpg
img_0228.jpg

Last week I decided, on a whim, that it was time to finally bake the apple crumble that I've been dying to bake for ages. Weeks ago, I stopped at an apple orchard on the way home from school and picked up a ton of apples, then cut them up and stored them in the freezer with intentions of baking this beloved autumnal dessert. But then I got busy, other things became a priority, blah blah blah, you know how it is. But last Friday, my mum and I went out, bought the ingredients we were missing, and then I baked this lovely dish.

It's probably important to mention that until baking said apple crumble (or 'apple crumbly' as I call it), I had never baked anything before in my life. I know, it's crazy that a nineteen-year-old has never baked before. But for my first attempt, it went very well, judging by the deliciousness of the forkful I snuck after it had cooled down :)

I used a recipe I found off Pinterest to bake my apple crumbly, as I found it was a very straight-forward guide that I could easily follow as a first-time baker. My apple crumbly turned out amazing. So I'm gunna have to give this recipe two big happy thumbs up. If you want to make your own apple crumbly, you can find the recipe I used here.

What is your favourite autumnal dessert or treat?

Friday Thoughts: Halloween & Holiday Starbucks

img_2108.jpg

It's Friday!! I hope everyone's had an amazing week, and that work/school hasn't been too exhausting ;) I'm back with a weekly Friday thoughts post, to sum up my week before the busy weekend ahead!

  • Halloween was this week!! My family had a total blast this year. We had a laidback Halloween and spent our night watching an assortment of great Halloween films - Silence of the Lambs, Hocus Pocus, and Psycho. My boyfriend and I were in charge of handing out candy to the kids which we were happy to do because it was genuinely so fun to see all the kids in their costumes.
  • This week has been so exciting for me as it's now November which means Christmas is soon! I know a lot of people are like, "It's only November, stop talking about Christmas" but I'm not one of those people haha. I've already started decorating my fireplace mantlepiece and it looks phenomenal. I can't wait to share it all with you very very soon.
  • Last weekend, my family went to the Cineplex VIP theatre in Oakville, which was mine and my boyfriend's very first time. We saw Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle and we had such a good time. For those unfamiliar with the VIP theatre, you basically get to pick your seat in advance, and when you arrive the chairs are massive leather recliners, and the theatre is equipped with a full food and alcohol menu. My boyfriend and I shared nachos and quesadillas, which were pretty good. But the real star of the show was the drinks. I had the Pineapple Upside Down Cake martini (cake vodka and pineapple juice) and the Coco Mocha (spiked hot cocoa). Yummmmmmm.
  • It's NaNoWriMo! For those who don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it's a challenge in November for writers to complete a 50,000-word novel in the month of November. Obviously, only a first draft, but it's a way to push you towards a goal. This year I will be accepting the challenge and trying my hand at completing it. Wish me luck!
  • Steven and I are still going full-on with watching The Office. We're at the beginning of season five and we're super ecstatic because (spoiler alert!!!) Pam and Jim just got engaged. Eek! So exciting. We've also gotten back into another favourite show of ours, The 100. We watch this with my parents and it's so hard finding the time that we can all watch it together, but we finally got back into it and it's intense. Thank god no one can hear us screaming at the TV in our basement lmao
  • I'm FINALLY done Christmas shopping for my boyfriend!!! It might seem super ahead of time, but I mostly shop online so I have to get the shopping done well in advance. I have finally done it. I feel so accomplished haha. I still have to buy for my mum, my dad, and Steven's mum. But Steven is the hardest one to shop for so I'm glad to have that figured out and out of mind!
  • Speaking of Christmas (when am I not speaking of Christmas?), the Starbucks holiday drinks and cups are out!!!!!!! Woo!!!! My mum and I went to our favourite Indigo bookstore on Nov 1st, to look for a book I wanted (which wasn't in stock :( ) and decided to pop into the adjacent Starbucks. I was so bummed when I saw there were no holiday drinks listed on the board, so we went up to order and the lovely woman behind the counter informed us that as Gold members, we were eligible for the ~secret~ yet-to-be-released holiday drinks menu! BEST DAY EVER. So, of course, I ordered the Caramel Brule Latte because it's my absolute favourite drink ever. Day = made.

Well, I've certainly rambled on for quite a bit so I think I'll end my post here. Thank you all for reading! I hope you enjoy this weekly sneak-peek into my life. I'll see you all back here on Tuesday. Have a lovely weekend!

Friday Thoughts

image-11.png

Hello everyone! Lately, I've been trying to think of a way to have weekly updates here on my blog, to keep everyone up to date with my crazy, hectic life. So, I thought maybe posting little thoughts/updates every Friday might be a good way to do so, without babbling on forever and totally boring you all since I tend to do that (haha no lie). Without further ado, here is a mini look into my life as of late!

  • I've been driving around a lot recently - to class, to my boyfriend's classes, to the grocery shop, to Starbucks (which is a trek, might I add). But with all this driving, I've found that I've been really enjoying being in the car, especially on my own, which is something I totally didn't expect to happen!
  • Hey, why is it that the closest Starbucks is literally 20 mins away?? There are a ton of perks to living in a small town, but having no Starbucks nearby is not one of them. There are two Tim Horton's within five blocks, but no Starbucks. Sad Felicia.
  • I've been really into The Office lately. I know, I know, I'm sooooo behind on this one (didn't it end in like 2011 or something??? who knows) but my boyfriend and I started watching it casually in September and now we're already halfway through season three. We literally watch it every night when we go up to bed. I'm not even ashamed lol.
  • The weather here in Ontario has been so odd lately. I constantly find myself standing at the front door, thinking, Do I need a sweater? Yeah, definitely, it's 9 degrees. Maybe I should grab a coat as well, as I get quite chilly? Well, no it's going to be 22 degrees in an hour-and-a-half. So maybe I'll just blast the heat in the car and turn on the seat warmers and the steering wheel warmer??? Gah! So frustrating.
  • I know we haven't even gotten to Halloween yet, and that it's just around the corner, but lately I've been in such a Christmasy mood. All I want to do is douse the whole house in tinsel and listen to Michael Buble's Christmas album on repeat. Is that odd? Probably. (I'm actually listening to my Christmas playlist right now but shhh don't tell anyone)
  • This morning I woke up at 6:50 and had to drive my boyfriend to his 7:30 lecture, and when I came home I took a 3-HOUR NAP and now I'm feeling groggy and awful. So the moral of the story is, don't fall into the nap trap, it will only make you feel so much worse ugh
  • A couple days ago, I found a wasp in my bathroom, behind the shades. I've not likely mentioned it here before, but I have this horrible irrational fear of wasps/bees after being stung in grade 9, so finding this little intruder in my bathroom was terrifying hahaha but at least my boyfriend and my dad got a kick out of my reaction
  • I am so unbelievably excited for the Bath & Body Works winter holiday range to come out!! I've received a few emails lately of them releasing a few holiday candles here and there, and it's only made me more excited for what's yet to come. Right now they've got a Buy 3, Get 3 Free sale going on in Canada and I'm so tempted. Though, if I buy any more candles, my family may disown me. Space in our candle cabinet is getting pretty tight...
  • My boyfriend and my mum have gotten me really into Star Wars in the past year. So much so that as soon as the trailer for The Last Jedi dropped, I was watching it. Never thought I'd say that.

Back to Reality

Well, good afternoon everyone and perhaps I should say, welcome back! I know, it's been eons since I last posted on my blog (it seems that more often than not am I writing this same apology for not posting, so sorry for that as well). The last few weeks have been an utter whirlwind, what with going on a week-long cruise, then returning from Florida and getting back into the swing of day-to-day life.

As you may remember, going a long way back to May, I posted a life update in which I mentioned that my family was moving. Since I left for Florida about three weeks after moving into my new home, I never really got a chance to fully put away all my things so that brought on a whole new task in itself when I returned home a week ago. Fortunately, every inch of this house is exactly what I've dreamed of and I fall further in love with it every day. I can't wait to share some of my favourite details with all of you soon!

With school resuming and me entering my second year of university, I will be a busy bee for the upcoming weeks but I promise to you I will try my absolute best to be more consistent with posting on my blog. Thank you all for bearing with me for the last while. I assure you that things will go back to normal soon!

Lots of love to you all!
