Spring Cleaning Must-Dos

springcleaning.png

Spring has sprung (I've been waiting ages to say that haha). As I mentioned in my last post, spring isn't my most favourite season, however, there are definitely parts of it that I do really enjoy. And one of them is spring cleaning. Don't get me wrong, I usually hate cleaning. I'm the kind of person who either gets super grumpy when I have to clean, or I start cleaning and then end up sitting around all afternoon looking at random stuff I find in the process. But spring to me is the perfect time to hit refresh on your life. Thoroughly cleaning out everything that might have been a bit neglected over the dreary winter months gives me a really awesome feeling and I'm so eager to get started on it all!

To keep myself productive, I've set myself up a to-do list to keep myself on track with what I want to accomplish during the next few months. Without further ado, here is my spring cleaning must-do list!

(1) Declutter my workspace

I tend to get my best work done in an organized environment. Is it just me? Clutter seriously drives me crazy. I'm weirdly specific about how my workspace is set up and I really like it looking ~aesthetically pleasing~ too lol. But when times get super busy, it can be really easy to just get used to putting up with a messy workspace. Now that spring is here and things are winding down, I have much more time to devote to cleaning out the clutter once and for all.

(2) Reorganize my vanity

I have been blissfully ignorant of the fact that my makeup stash is super cluttered and full of crap for a long time. I find myself digging past tubes of mascara far past their expiry dates on a daily basis. My makeup collection is in desperate need of a clean out y'all... So I'm really looking forward to taking the opportunity to go through my makeup and tossing out all those old products that desperately need getting rid of.

(3) Purge my closet

I've needed to do a good purge of my closet for ages now. I last did one around this time last year, just before I moved, but I still held onto a bunch of things I definitely didn't need. There's a lot of clothes in my closet that I kept from my teens that I just wouldn't wear in my twenties. So now is the perfect time to sort through everything and donate the things I don't wear anymore (and toss out the things that are too worn out to pass along). It also gives me the opportunity to upgrade my wardrobe - aka shopping!!

(4) Do a proper top-to-bottom clean of my room

Spring cleaning does, in fact, have the word "cleaning" in it. So, of course, I have to do some proper cleaning. That means vacuuming, dusting, washing the linens, cleaning the windows, etc. Throughout the school year, I've been doing things sporadically, doing one task at a time. But now that I've got some free time, I'll be able to do it all at once which means going into spring with a perfectly fresh start!

(5) Clean the inside and outside of my car

I've been dying to clean the inside of my car basically since the week that I got it. When the weather finally gets nice (whenever that will be...) the first thing I plan on doing is clean my car. Winter wreaked some major friggin' havoc on my poor car. I hate it. It's like everything is coated in snow and slush residue and the exterior is all stained from trudging through mountains of snow. Blegh. I'm soo ready to run my car through the wash and do some major interior cleaning!

Happy Spring Cleaning to all!!

Autumnal Decor

I absolutely love decorating. I always have. Interior design is something I've been interested in for a long time, and picking up little pieces from home decor shops is one of my favourite pasttimes. So, being able to decorate our house for autumn was something I was definitely looking forward to. It's just a little bit of sprucing up that I think makes a big difference to the overall look of our house, on the outside and inside, and since it always puts a smile on my face, I thought I'd share it with you all to give you some home decor inspo!

Our main focus of decorations inside the house is our mantelpiece, which has been something I've been dying to decorate ever since we saw this house for the first time back in February. In the old house, we had a fireplace but the mantel was quite thin so you could only place photo frames or cards on top of it. But since this one has a lot of space, we've got a lot to work with. It's quite sparse right now, but I'm sure by next year we'll figure out what to do to fill out the space. But for now, we have a few pieces decorating it.

This side of the mantel is my personal favourite. The plastic fake pumpkin is from Michaels, the craft store, and the "Home is where the haunt is" sign is from Hallmark. They were both decently priced and I like the nod to Halloween (as we all know, I'm a huge fan of the holiday). The itty bitty pumpkin is just so cute, and I think the two pieces really compliment each other.

On the other end of the mantelpiece, we have a large basket which was gifted to us by our real estate agent who helped sell our old house. It came with a bunch of goodies inside, but now we use it as a flower holder for these fake flowers, which are also from Michaels. There are a few bundles of these flowers inside, that we've mixed up to create an assortment of fall-coloured bouquets. I love how this turned out. It definitely spruces up the room.

Lastly, in the centre of the mantlepiece, we typically have a candle. Currently, the Bath & Body Works Hello Sugar! Warm Apple Pie candle is in that place. This is my favourite autumnal candle, as it really does smell exactly like the scent of apple pie baking. I love lighting this candle up and cuddling up under a blanket to watch a film, which is how I'm tempted to spend my evening tonight haha.

On the exterior of our house, we currently have this beautiful autumn wreath hanging from our door. Again, another Michaels' find. Can you tell I spend a lot of time at Michaels?! I love placing wreaths on our front door, as they're a subtle way to decorate for any season, especially the Christmas season (stay tuned for a Christmas decorations post in the next month or so!!). We got this wreath for about 60% off, which was an absolute bargain as it was originally, like, $70.

Last but not least, we have this adorable little set-up in our front yard. Our yard has this little area, with a stone pathway and bench nearby a miniature waterfall. It was the perfect area to put a bunch of outdoorsy autumn decorations. We bought these hay bales from (no surprise) Michaels, and decorated them with pumpkins that we purchased just from our local grocery store. We didn't want to pick out average-looking pumpkins so we went with some odd looking ones, like this white one on top and the two funky Cinderella pumpkins. We left a space for the pumpkin that we're going to carve, which we plan to do this weekend in preparation for Halloween. We also have this cute little scarecrow guy hanging out in our front yard. At first, we weren't sure if he would be able to sit out front, but we tied him to the short gate which you can see if you look closely behind the bench. I love that the first thing you see when you pull up to my house is our little scaregrow guarding our mini pumpkin patch haha :)

Have you decorated your house for autumn or Halloween?
