Drugstore Beauty Products I've Been Loving

IMG_9592.jpeg

Hey everyone, it’s me, your friendly neighbourhood university student, and I’m here to tell you that you are not alone, we are all suffering and we all have debt up to our noses thanks to this brilliant higher education that probably won’t help us get good jobs in the end cause the job market is a terrible place. Let’s get that out in the open, off our chests. Feels good to say it out loud, right? Not really but hey, at least we’re all suffering together!

All jokes aside, being in uni is rough. Being an adult in general is rough, especially when you don’t really have a stable income because either your part-time job doesn’t pay enough or you aren’t currently employed so that you can focus on your studies in order to get a good job (*raises hand* YUP). Whatever your spending money on, whether it’s schooling or accommodations or groceries, or maybe just saving every spare penny for the ~future~ then you might not have a lot of extra money to spend on make-up. Thankfully, there are a ton of really great affordable beauty products out there, if you know to look in the right places! I think of myself as a bit of a drugstore brand connoisseur and I’ve found some gems over time.

Today, I thought I’d share some of my favourite drugstore brand products that I’ve been using this summer to help y’all out with staying glam throughout the season on a budget!

E.l.f. Cosmetics Flawless Finish Foundation [$6]

Hello, yes, it is I, continuing to champion e.l.f. cosmetics products. WHAT ELSE IS NEW. But seriously, what could be said against this brand? It’s inexpensive, the products are beautiful, and best of all, it’s cruelty-free! The product I love most by e.l.f. is their flawless finish foundation. It’s a mostly full-coverage formula that gives skin an even, beautiful glow without being shimmery or “wet” and it’s phenomenal when you take into consideration the pricetag (hello, $6 foundation!!). I’ve been using - and raving about - this foundation for a few years now and as long as my budget is tight (aka the foreseeable future) I will continue to do so. I find that it can be easily applied with either a foundation brush or blending sponge which makes it super versatile depending on your preference or if you’re like me, on your mood lol. Personally, I have very dry, sensitive skin and this product works amazingly for me. During the summer months, I’ve transitioned from the Snow shade for my sad Victorian-lady pale skin (although it is a tad too pale for me) to the Sand shade as I’m working on a tan, and I’ve loved both shades equally.

NYX Worth the Hype Waterproof Mascara [$8]

This one’s a new favourite of mine that I’ve been loving this summer. NYX in itself is an amazing brand. I find that it’s high-end quality for drugstore prices. While elf is my favourite drugstore brand, NYX might just take the cake for being better quality (albeit for slightly higher prices). The tapered tip of this mascara wand is to die for honestly. I picked this mascara up on a whim as I’d never tried an NYX mascara before and I was in the market for a new one so it seemed like perfect timing. I gotta say, I absolutely love this one. As I’ve already got long eyelashes, I’m not really too concerned about a product that lengthens my lashes, I much prefer something that separates and thickens. This totally does that. Like to an extent that I was not prepared for. It’s taken a lot of practice to not get this all over my upper eyelids lol but once I get the hang of it, I end up with big, fluttery lashes!! So lovely and the waterproof feature is an absolute god send in this Florida heat (and daily torrential rain storms!)

E.l.f. Cosmetics Blush in “Candid Coral” [$4]

Y’all let’s talk about peach tones for a sec ok? I’m game for anything in a pretty peachy shade. I think it’s girly and cute and fun, plus it goes perfectly with a tan. Perhaps my all-time favourite peach product is this e.l.f. blush. The colour is actually called “coral” but let’s not let semantics get in the way of our fun. This lovely little powder blush is my knight in shining armour. I pop a bit of this blush on my cheeks every damn day, especially now that it’s summertime. Remember when we thought blush was unnecessary or uncool or whatever and we walked around like boring, dull contoured weirdos? We all did it, let’s be honest. Blush has become absolutely essential to my everyday makeup look, I cannot imagine not wearing it now. This gives a really healthy, bright look to my face, which has been even more necessary this last week as I’ve been fighting off some weird cold/stomach bug and have looked like a dead girl walking!

E.l.f. Cosmetics Beautifully Bare Cheek Glow in “Soft Peach” [$4]

Oh look, another blush lol what a shocker. Seriously though, this was an actual surprise product for me!! It’s not the sort of product I’d typically reach for, mostly because it’s cream-based. Cream blushes remind me of my early makeup preteen years and kind of makes me shudder involuntarily. But this was actually a huge hit for me! It’s not just a cream blush, it actually is a cream-to-powder blush, so I don’t find it as clumpy as pure cream blushes typically are. Mind you I’m judging all cream blushes based on the formulas of the early 2010s so take that with a grain of salt haha. Of course, this is another peach shade. It looks very natural on the skin especially if you pat it down a bit with a blending sponge (there’s my little amateur tip for y’all). Although the product looks very orange-y in the pan, I promise it doesn’t come off so vibrant!

NYX Matte Bronzer [$9]

I genuinely adore this bronzer. Mostly, I tend to reach for more shimmery bronzers, especially when it comes to summertime when I’ve got a tan and I just feel like it gives a really healthy glow. This matte bronzer by NYX totally surprised me. I picked it up because I wanted a daytime bronzer and with this unbelievable Floridian heat, I was already looking a little too glow-y for my own good and not in a nice way haha. So I finally gave in and bought a matte bronzer, and I don’t regret it in the slightest! This powder bronzer is so pretty and stays in place through rain or shine, and humidity or (yuck) sweat. I love it and could not recommend it enough.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Kabuki Face Brush [$6]

This brush is absolutely glorious. I had never really considered using a kabuki brush until I picked this up on a whim at Target. Kabuki brushes are particularly good at applying powder and I’ve been using this to apply bronzer, especially to my neck/chest area where I didn’t get as much sun as the other areas. The kabuki brush is large enough that it doesn’t require a lot of effort to apply the powder, even on a large surface like my neck/chest area. It applies the product really evenly and makes the bronzer look super natural and not like batches of makeup lol. Not to mention e.l.f.’s brush is way cheaper than other kabuki brushes, even from other drugstore brands (the NYX one is nearly $20!!). This is a must-have drugstore brand brush for sure.

And that’s all for now! What drugstore brand products have you been loving this summer?

January Favourites

Attachment-2.jpeg

New year, new opportunity to try to remember to post monthly favourites! I always love writing up these favourites posts, but I find it so hard to remember to post one at the end of each and every month. My brain is so wrapped up in uni mode that I often neglect my blog :( But here’s to turning over a new leaf and making more of an effort with my blog!!

With that being said, here are my favourite things from January!

*

Marc Anthony Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter [Shampoo // Conditioner]

Oh my goodness. This shampoo & conditioner set is truly to die for. I was in the market for a new shampoo and conditioner as I was pretty disillusioned with the one I was using before. I picked up this Marc Anthony duo on a whim, as I knew that Marc Anthony was a good brand (fun fact: my dad went to school with Marc Anthony himself!). It’s soo nice!! It makes my hair so soft and hydrated, and the scent reminds me so much of a tropical holiday! In other words, it’s a very strong coconut scent. If you don’t love heavy scents in your hair products, steer away from this bc it’s powerful haha. But the coconut scent is what makes me love it!

Bath & Body Works Comfort Body Butter [Similar: Body Cream]

If I could smell like Bath & Body Works’ Comfort scent 24/7, I would. Is there a way to make that happen that doesn’t involve going through ten tubs of body butter per month?! This Comfort scent is part of Bath & Body Works’ Aromatherapy line (which I absolutely love btw) and its fragrance is a combination of vanilla and patchouli essential oil. I think it’s an unusual but also really nice scent that isn’t too overpowering at all. Plus, the body butter is very hydrating on the skin. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem they’re selling it online anymore (I got mine in the semi-annual sale) but I’m sure the body lotion version - which I’ve linked - is very similar!

Bath & Body Works Stress Relief Body Cream [Body Cream]

Surprise, surprise, yet another thing from the Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy line!! I really love the Stress Relief scent so so much. The eucalyptus is lovely and genuinely soothes my anxiety. I’ve got this scent in a million different versions - soaps, wallflowers, sprays, you name it - but I find this body cream is one of my favs. It’s also very moisturizing!! And I got it for like $4 at the semi-annual sale this Christmas so I simply couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to buy it ;)

Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash with Soothing Oat & Coconut [Body Wash]

This favourite of mine was actually a complete fluke! My boyfriend went to the store to pick up a few things and I asked him to pick up the Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash. I typically use the fragrance free one as I have super sensitive skin, so I like to be careful with washing. But he accidentally picked up the coconut one and can I just say I am absolutely in love with it?! It’s completely added to my coconut scent obsession!! I find it doesn’t irritate my skin at all, so the skin relief part is still useful. But it just adds a lovely scent to my skin - so it’s a bonus!

The History Chicks Podcast [Website]

Unlike the rest of the world, I’ve not been totally obsessed with podcasts these past few years. For me, I’m very much a visual sort of person so I find that while listening to audiobooks or podcasts, my mind often wanders off as I get bored of listening. However, the one exception to the rule is The History Chicks podcast! I’ve been listening to this podcast on-and-off for the past year or so, and I’ve recently fallen back in love with it! It’s very simple - two women sit down and chronologically discuss the lives of prominent women, real or not, in history. Being a massive history fanatic, especially when it comes to women’s history, this is right up my alley! Personal favourite episodes include Jane Austen, Marie Antoinette, and Mary, Queen of Scots - because those are my fav historical women. However, there are hundreds to browse through and listen to!

Game of Thrones

I know I’m so late to the party, but I very recently started watching Game of Thrones and I’ve been loving it. Totally see what all the buzz has been about these last, what, 8 years lol. But whatever it’s all good!! I basically binge-watched the entirety of the available seasons in January alone, getting all the way up to the end of season 5. I’m v excited to see what the next two available seasons have in store and even more so what the final season has to offer! I’m pretty bummed that I’ll have watched all of Game of Thrones in just a few short months though… Feels like I missed out on the journey a little bit! If anyone’s wondering, my fav characters so far are Daenerys and Tyrion!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Broadway Musical Soundtrack

It somehow managed to slip my knowledge that The Hunchback of Notre Dame had been turned into a Broadway musical at some point… How?! I absolutely love Hunchback, and always have, ever since I was a kid. And I adore musical theatre, if you hadn’t already guessed that. So I had to check out the Hunchback Broadway soundtrack and BOY am I glad I did!!! The OBC is incredible and although I highly doubt it’ll happen, I would be extremely grateful if they cast Michael Arden as Quasimodo in the upcoming Hunchback of Notre Dame live action adaptation.

So that’s all for this month! Hope you guys enjoyed reading about my little favourite bits and bobs of the month!

2018 Favourites

Hello everybody!!

As we’ve recently entered a new year, I thought that now would be the perfect time to look back on the last one and reflect on some of my favourite things from 2018! Although in the grand scheme of things 2018 wasn’t my favourite year, it was a really great year for entertainment and beauty products for me. I discovered a bunch of new things that I absolutely love which I can’t wait to share with all of you.

Books Collage.jpg

BOOKS

1) “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn - This book was crazy good!! I didn’t know I needed a book about female war spies until I read this book and it only left me longing for more. [FULL REVIEW]

2) “Beartown” by Fredrik Backman - As this was the last book I read in 2018, I don’t have a full review up for it yet. But trust me when I say that this book is FANTASTIC. In fact, it may just be the best book I read in the whole year. [FULL REVIEW]

3) “My Lady Jane” by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows - I was a bit iffy about this one, but I ended up absolutely adoring it. It was a completely fictional retelling of the history of Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days’ Queen. The fantasy elements were both tasteful and hilariously impractical at the same time. [FULL REVIEW]

4) “Under Rose-Tainted Skies” by Louise Gornall - Prior to reading this, I’d never come across a book that I connected to in regards to mental illness. But this one captured anxiety, and mental illness in general, in such a relatable and comforting way. I saw a lot of both my teenage and adult self in the main character, Norah. I really hope that other teens can read this novel and feel like they aren’t alone in the world! [FULL REVIEW]

5) “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell - I loooove Rainbow Rowell, and Fangirl perhaps only reinforced my love for her writing. This is easily my favourite of Rowell’s novels. I love how she represented fandoms and also encouraged aspiring authors to write fan fiction, as it’s such a great creative outlet! [FULL REVIEW]

6) “All We Ever Wanted” by Emily Giffin - Woww this book was insane. It took on such a powerful, contemporary issue. I really hadn’t expected to be as impacted by this novel as I was after reading it!! [FULL REVIEW]

TV collage.jpg

TV SHOWS

1) The Crown - Technically not a 2018 TV show, but this is one I binged - and loved - this year! I tried to watch The Crown for the first time in 2016 but never really got into it. When I tried to watch it again this year, I absolutely fell for it. Can’t wait for the new season to come out this year!

2) This Is Us - I feel like a lot of people can agree with me on this one. This Is Us seems like it’s stolen everyone’s hearts these past few years. It’s honestly such a heartwarming family drama - and we all know how I feel about family dramas!!

3) Big Little Lies - Again, this one didn’t come out in 2018. I read the book last year around the time that the show came out but I don’t have HBO so I had to wait for it to come out on dvd. FINALLY I got to watch this in the summer and oh my god I loved it so much!!!

FILMS

1) Love Simon - Is it possible for a movie to simultaneously warm and break your heart?? Cause this one sure had that effect on me. Personally I think this movie was long overdue, but I really hope that now this one’s come out, it’ll pave way for more LGBTQ films in the future!

2) Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again - I’ve literally waited ten years for another Mamma Mia film and I’m sooo happy that it finally came out. This movie was everything I wanted - comedy, amazing music, strong female characters, and a fabulous storyline!

3) Bohemian Rhapsody - Ohhh my gosh. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of a film about Freddie Mercury, and Bohemian Rhapsody surely did not disappoint. Rami Malek did such an excellent job as Freddie, I was truly blown away!

Music collage.jpg

MUSIC

1) Hamilton - Many of you probably already know that I’m 100% obsessed with the musical, Hamilton. Like OBSESSED. And have been for like three years. But this year, my obsession only strengthened because I found out that the musical is coming to Toronto in 2019!! So exciting!!

2) Shawn Mendes - Shawn Mendes released his third album this past May and I loved it. He’s one of my favourite artists, everything he puts out immediately grips my heart. I just love him. I think my favourite song on this album has to be Lost in Japan. Sooooo good. Can’t wait to see him live in concert this year!

3) 70s Music (Fleetwood Mac) - This past year, I got very into 70s music. I’m into old music as it is, but before I primarily stuck to 80s, 90s, and country music from the 60s (weird I know). But aside from my already steadfast love of Queen and ABBA, I decided to broaden my horizons a bit this year and got really into Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and Dolly Parton - all of whom I liked before, but now I totally love!!

photo.jpg

BEAUTY

1) E.l.f. Cosmetics Eyebrow Duo Kit - This has been one of my favourite beauty products for quite a few years, but I always have to mention it anyway. Considering how much I use eyebrow products, I can’t justify buying really expensive ones. But this is definitely the best drugstore brand eyebrow product I’ve come across!

2) Rimmel London Wonder Lash Mascara - I’ve been straight up obsessed with this mascara since I picked it up on a whim during the summer. It makes my lashes soooo bloody long and thick oh my goodness. I think the argan oil infusion really does a lot to help.

3) Too Faced Peach Blur Translucent Smoothing Finishing Powder - I was gifted this for Christmas last year and absolutely loved it.

4) Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette - I picked this up this summer and am completely in love with it. I’ve been very into orange-y shades in 2018 (and into 2019 as well), so this was completely perfect for me!!

5) Colourpop Lippie Stix - The Colourpop lippie stix have basically been my go-to for lip colour in 2018. I love these so so so much. They’re perfect, long-lasting matte lipsticks and they come in soo many different gorgeous shades. The majority of the ones I have are dark reds or mauves lol.

What were your favourites of 2018?

Blogmas 2018 Day Fourteen: My Favourite Holiday Red Lipsticks

Hi darlings!

Christmas is the perfect time for a red lip. In fact, is wearing any other shade of lipstick at Christmas even acceptable?? JK but no seriously, red lips are iconic during this time of the year. Red is one of my favourite colours so I take full advantage of sporting red lips during this season. I own about a dozen different* shades of red (* my boyfriend will tell you they’re all the same shade but they’re not *eye roll*). But today, I’m sharing with you guys four of my ultimate favourite shades and luckily, they are all drugstore brand/inexpensive! Us cheap gals need to stick together and help each other out, am I right??

IMG_5787.JPG

Revlon Ultra HD Matte LipColor in Love

This first one has been a staple in my makeup collection since probably my senior year of high school. It’s what I like to call a “fruity” red aka it’s a brighter, more fun shade of red than some of the others in my repertoire. It does give off a bit of a shine, so it’s not fully matte as they claim. And it’s a liquid lipstick which gives it a bonus point in my books however it is one that needs to be blotted a lot once applied as it produces a ton of excess product and is quite transferable. Something to be mindful of. Regardless of that, it stays put for quite some time and I think you could easily get through a night with only one or two freshen-ups. The nice thing is that it’s not at all drying, so if you apply a couple layers, it won’t make your lips disgusting (we’ve all been there…)

IMG_5786.JPG

ColourPop Lippie Stix in Love Life

I only purchased this lipstick this year but I absolutely knew almost right away that it would become a Christmas season favourite for me. I’m a huge fan of Colourpop’s lipsticks - both liquid and not - and these lippie stixs are wonderful. They’re so easy to apply and it’s hard to make a mess, as the product doesn’t easily smudge during application. Love Life is a beautiful matte lipstick which is described by the website as a “brownish brick red” which I think completely does it justice. I will say, when I was applying this the other night, a piece of it did fall off while I was pressing it (gently) to my lip soooo that was a bummer. Be very careful with this one!!

E.l.f. Cosmetics Matte Lip Colour in Wine

This is a very similar product to the ColourPop Lippie Stix… In fact, now that I’ve got a good look at both, the packaging looks eerily similar… Anyway, it’s the same concept as the Lippie Stix with a twist-up (plus there’s a hidden sharpener at the bottom of the tube!). In comparison to the Lippie Stix, however, this one is quite drying so I apply it sparingly and try not to reapply as often. It’s a full-coverage matte (do you think I have a type?) and it’s really a gorgeous maroon colour. I think of all of these, this shade suits my skin tone best. It’s really really lovely and SO inexpensive. I think it was about $3 or $4..

IMG_5784.JPG

NYX Liquid Suede in Kitten Heels

This will always and forever be my FAVOURITE red lipstick. This is actually my second tube because I completely misplaced my first one… Oops. I remember when the NYX store opened up in Mississauga and I dragged my bf out to the mall to grab my first ever tube of this lipstick in this shade, because every girl was talking about it, and it was completely sold out. For good reason, too. This is a sort-of-matte lipstick. I say sort of because it is very glossy when you first apply it but if you blot it a LOT, it comes out to a much thinner layer that’s still full coverage and quite matte. That’s the way I wear it because I really hate glossy slimy lipstick. It’s such a beautiful bright red shade and festive AF in my opinion!!

What’s your all-time fav holiday red lipstick?

Blogmas 2018 Day Twelve: Festive Makeup Look

Hello my friends!

For any beauty lover, Christmas is one of the best seasons for experimenting with makeup looks!! If you know me already, I tend to stay on the safe side of the makeup spectrum - all earthy tones and neutrals, all the time. But I do love me a good shimmery shadow every now and then. So Christmas - being the sparkliest season - is one of my favourite times of the year!!

Today I thought that I’d share with you guys my festive Christmas makeup look, which is the makeup I wore to my family & friends Christmas party and will likely wear to my family dinners/celebrations as well. I hope you guys enjoy and get some inspo for your own holiday beauty looks!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25H Foundation

To start my makeup look, I use a Beauty Blender to apply the Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25H Foundation. This one’s a bit too light for my skin, but with powder and a good blend, luckily I can make it work haha. This is a great full coverage foundation and the perfect base for a full makeup look like this one.

Attachment-3-1.jpeg

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

The past few months, I’ve been switching up my concealer a lot but my recent go-to has been this Instant Age Rewind under-eye concealer. It really highlights my under-eye area and hides any bags (which I’ve certainly got a lot of, seeing as it’s exam season!!). I’ll also use this to highlight other areas of my face!

E.l.f. Cosmetics Eyebrow Kit

For my eyebrows, I used - as usual - the cream side of the Elf Cosmetics Eyebrow Kit in “Medium.” This is my go-to eyebrow kit and I am so so sad that I’ve already hit pan, but luckily this is a really inexpensive product so I don’t have to worry about it too much. I very rarely touch the power side of this kit at all, which you can see lol. Instead I just dip an angled brush into the cream and slowly build it up in my brows to create a perfectly bold brow. Then I use the spoolie end of the brush to disperse the product and make it look more natural!

tartepalette.jpg

Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette

To start off my eyeshadow, I used a mixture of the colours “Journey” and “Ember” from the Clay Play Face Shaping Palette. I love the natural but beautiful shades of this palette, and it’s really lovely how they can be used for so many different purposes. I blend these two shades together into my crease to create a neutral but smokey affect to my makeup look.

naturallovepalette.jpg

Too Faced Natural Love Palette

For a sparkly touch to my festive eye look, I blended the gold shades “Honey Pot” and “Fairy Tale” from the Natural Love palette together to create the ultimate shimmery shadow. It’s an intense gold my friends. If you want to attempt this but don’t have a steady hand, I’d recommend doing your foundation after eyeshadow, as it can create a bit of a sparkly mess. Once it’s on, you can easily wipe any excess away so it comes out more subtle (which is what I prefer - if you want a big-bang sparkle, then go for it girl!!)

toofacedpalette.jpg

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

You probably know by now that one of my favourite eyeshadow palettes of all time is none other than the fabulous Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. Ugh it’s complete heaven. For this look, I only used the shimmery cream shade “Nectar,” which I used to highlight my brow bone. I really like how this looks under my eyebrows, it gives them a nice pop and I think it just completes the look!!

Attachment-6.jpeg

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner

This is perhaps my favourite liquid eyeliner of all time!! Liquid liner is sooo difficult to work with honestly. But this one makes it a bit less of a hassle. It’s the perfect shade of black - I like the blackest black shade for my liner. It’s really easy to handle and doesn’t come off too quickly at all. For this look, I just gave myself a bit of a cat-eye liner.

Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit

I’ve been using this contour kit for ages now on my more dramatic makeup looks and I love it!! I use the contour shade (the pan on the far left) and blend that in under my cheekbones to make them stand out!

L’Oreal True Match Blush

This is one of my favourite blushes! It’s so subtle but so pretty. I like my blush to just give me a bit of colour to my cheeks, but not be too overpowering, and this does exactly what I want it to do! I just pop a bit of this onto the apples of my cheeks ~as you do~ and voila!

Too Faced Peach Blur Translucent Smoothing Finishing Powder

I’ve raved about how much I love this bad boy for about a year now and here I am, raving about it once again. It’s so lovely on the skin!! I use it after my contour and blush to smooth out any harsh lines and just give a more natural look to my face makeup.

Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter

I love love love love this highlighter!! One of the best drugstore highlighters I’ve yet to come across. I just pop this onto my cheekbones, my chin, my cupid’s bow and the tip of my nose. Blend it in a bit. And then I’m shimmery all night long. I’ve been using the shade Molten Gold for about 4 months now and I think that I’ll go back to the store and grab the Rose Gold one sometime soon because I love it that much.

~ Final Product ~

And this is what it all comes out to!! A very natural, but festive and shimmery look! It’s hard to see in the lighting the highlighter haha but I swear it’s there ;) It’s a really wearable look for the Christmas season!!

What’s your go-to festive makeup look?

Blogmas 2018 Day Nine: Winter Skincare Routine

IMG_5675.JPG

Winter can be real nasty when it comes to skin.

That dry, frigid air just loves to suck every ounce of moisture out of your skin until you’re all dry and flaky and gross. Blegh. I hate it.

When it comes to skincare, my routine changes up a bit during this season to reflect the beast that is Canadian winter. I try to keep my routine light and moisturizing, as opposed to using products that will dry out my skin even more. Today I thought I’d run through my routine with you guys, to give you an idea of the process I typically go through to keep my skin refreshed throughout the bitter cold months!

~★~

My morning and nighttime routines are very similar, aside from the fact that in the night, I have to go through the process of removing my makeup.

In the morning, I start off with washing my face with the La Roche-Posay Toleraine Purifying Cleanser. It’s a gentle, light cleanser that doesn’t dry out my skin or strip my skin of its natural oils, which is really nice. It’s also got a very light scent to it that’s not very overpowering but is still refreshing. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to produce this particular product anymore (booooo) but I’m sure the other Toleraine products are just as nice! Once I’ve washed my face, I’ll use my Lush Eau Roma Toner. I absolutely love Lush products as they’re natural and I feel like you can find a product for any type of skin concern. This is a rosewater toner made specifically for mature, sensitive or dry skin, so it’s perfect for this season. I’ll spritz it a couple times over my face and then remove the excess with a cotton pad. Finally, I’ll moisturize my face with my Olay Active Hydrating Face Moisturizer. This has a lovely scent and is soooo moisturizing!! Whenever I put it on, I can feel the life coming back to my skin to be honest. Once I’ve rubbed this into my face and neck, I’m ready to go!

In the night, I basically follow the same process, but with an additional step for makeup removing and a couple different products. To start, I remove my eye makeup with the Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover. I just pop a bit of this onto a cotton pad and wipe off my eye makeup, including my mascara. This is actually quite gentle which was surprising to me when I started using it - as a long time ago, when I first started makeup, I used a similar product that really irritated my eyes. It does a really great job of removing mascara as well, which is always tricky business. Once I’ve got all my eye makeup off, I’ll start on my face. To remove my makeup and cleanse my skin, I’ll do a double-cleanse to get all the gunk out. For this, I use the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk. I LOVE this cleanser!!! It’s so so gentle and refreshing, plus it has a wonderful scent. I've read a few reviews before on this product and they’re mixed on whether it removes makeup or not - I think it really has to do with how much/how heavy your makeup is. For someone who’s makeup use is on the lighter side, it works perfectly. Again, that’s not including my eye makeup. Once I’ve cleansed my face twice, I move onto toner. In the night, I use my Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner. I’m sure y’all have heard about this before as it’s one of the most raved about toners out there, second only to the Mario Badescu one. I only use this at nighttime during the colder months as I feel like it’s a bit more heavy-duty than my Lush toner, so I’d rather not have to go out in the blistering cold after applying it. I just a squirt a teeny bit of this onto a cotton pad and wipe it over my face. Finally, I finish off with Bio-Oil. I think I’ve probably talked about Bio-Oil on my blog about a thousand times already. Essentially, it’s a vitamin-rich scar and stretch mark oil. It works magic as a skincare product, especially if you - like myself - have some acne or acne scarring. It’s honestly almost eradicated my acne scars.

Every now and then, I’ll do a face mask to fully cleanse my skin and unclog my pores. My favourite face mask product is the Origins Out of Trouble 10-Minute Mask. It’s an absolute god send. My skin is left feeling so clean and refreshed after I use it. I really recommend this if you’re looking for a really deep-cleansing face mask.

And that’s it! What is your go-to skincare product in the winter?

Hello everybody! How are you all on this lovely afternoon?

I’ve been having the hardest time keeping up with my blog schedule now that I’ve started up with classes. I haven’t really ever had to juggle the two, as I picked up my blogging around the time that I left school… So that’s definitely been an adjustment! But here I am, with a new post, finally. Today I’m wrapping up all my beauty (and miscellaneous) favourites of the past couple months. There have been definitely been quite a few of those and since I haven’t done a ‘monthly favourites’ in awhile, I thought that this would be a great way to combine them all :)

♥ ♥ ♥

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk - $15.75 CAD [x]

Early last week, I decided that I wanted to treat myself to a little pick-me-up so I stopped at my local drugstore to do some poking around. I ended up finding this lovely Soap & Glory cleansing milk. I've been a fan of Soap & Glory since my high school days but I haven't bought anything of theirs in a long time. When I found this, I knew I needed to give it a go. It's got a lovely scent and every time I've used it, it's left my skin feeling refreshed and looking glowy af!

OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Extra Strength Creamy Hair Butter - $11.80 CAD [x]

I've been using the OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil for years now and have absolutely loved how it makes my hair look and feel. So when I came across this hair butter, I thought I'd give it a try. I've never tried a hair butter before but I've been really enjoying it so far! The cool thing about this product is that it can be used in two different ways: as an in-shower rinse out or as a leave-in conditioner. I've only used it as a rinse out so far, but I'm excited to try it as a leave-in too! After my shower, it left my hair so much more hydrated and tangle-free than usual. Plus, it smells divine.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Makeup Brush Cleaning Glove - $13.13 CAD [x]

Washing makeup brushes is such a chore, isn't it? I always dread when it's time to go through the process of individually cleaning my brushes (I've got quite a few by now). Which is why I bought this cleaning glove from e.l.f.! With all the different ridges across it, all you have to do is lather the makeup brush cleaner (or baby shampoo, in my case) and this bad boy does most of the work for you! Honestly, my brushes have never been so clean so quick before.

Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette - $55.00 CAD [x]

Y’all already know how much I love my peaches - and my peachy toned shadows. So it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that one of my recent favourites is the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes palette! I have already been in a deep love affair with the Sweet Peach palette they released a couple years back, but when I popped into Sephora this summer for the first time in a long time, I couldn’t leave without this baby. The shades are absolutely beautiful and so versatile. I think they’re perfect for autumn.

IMG_4616.JPG

Attmu Classic Rubber Transparent Hot Water Bottle - $10.99 USD [x]

I bought this when I was in Florida this summer and it's easily become one of my favourite products of the year (possibly of my life?). All summer, I've been suffering with fairly unbearable back and neck pain, so much so that at times, I was up all night in pain. Nothing was working to help and I was getting frustrated. I went on Amazon and after a quick search, I found this hot water bottle. IT'S A LIFE SAVER. All you do is fill the water bottle with hot water from a kettle and twist on the cap and voila! It keeps the water hot for hours and even with the sweater cover on, you can really feel the heat.

Yankee Candle Macintosh Car Jar - $6.00 [x]

I’ve been completely obsessed with car fresheners as of late, and this Yankee Candle one is my current fave. This lovely scent hangs in a small plastic jar off your rearview mirror. The scent, Macintosh, smells sooo strongly of apples which I absolutely adore and think is perfect for the upcoming autumn season. I really find that the Car Jar produces the strongest scent, in comparison to the car vent clips (which I’ve also used) but that’s just my personal opinion!

The Fosters [Available on Netflix]

As always, I have to mention a tv show in my favourites. Recently, I've been really enjoying the show The Fosters. I have always seen commercials for this show on Freeform whenever I was in the US but I never really thought much about it. Finally, after hearing so much about it, especially with Noah Centineo becoming so popular lately, I thought I'd start it. It's about a police officer, Stef, and her partner, Lena, and their large, blended family comprised of Stef's biological son and a pair of twins that the couple adopted when they were children. Things start to change when they take in a foster child, Callie, who's recently been in juvie, and her younger brother, Jude. Y'all know how much I love me a good family drama and this one definitely fits the bill!

What have you guys been loving lately?

Review: Makeup Revolution Re-Loaded Palette - Iconic Fever

IMG_3674.jpeg

The other day while poking around the new Ulta Beauty near my vacation home, I came across a fairly big section of makeup I didn't recognize called Makeup Revolution. It's probably something that people here in America or Europe would know (it's a British company), but it's not really familiar to me, being from Canada. I did a quick Google search and skimmed through a bunch of good reviews, so I decided to pick up a palette to try out. I ended up leaving with the Revolution Re-Loaded Palette in Iconic Fever, and I thought I'd do a little review of my thoughts on it!

The shadows

I really like this product. It's similar to typical drugstore palettes, like NYX or L'Oreal, but arguably at a better price (more on that later). The palette comes with 15 eyeshadows, with 10 matte and 5 shimmer shades in warm, burnt tones - sort of reminiscent of the Tartlette Toasted and the Urban Decay Naked Heat palettes. I've been really big on orange and red shades, ever since I started using the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette last year, and this was right up my alley.

Quality

The shades are actually pretty good quality, especially with taking the price into consideration. The matte neutrals are quite blendable and are very pigmented, but I should mention that the shimmer shades are a bit tricky - they don't show up as nicely with just a brush, you may need to use your finger or a dampened brush to get the shades to really pop. Though, I really can't complain much. The shadows look great on and don't fade or crease quickly either.

IMG_3673.jpeg

Price

Makeup Revolution is inexpensive af. That I learned pretty quickly, as this palette only set me back $7 usd ($9.21 cad)!! Honestly, that made me a bit skeptical. Seven bucks for 15 shades? Something had to be a bit shady there. But after giving the palette a try, I can honestly say that seven bucks is more than generous for the product. The quality of the shadows are really good and probably worth much more than seven dollars. So, frankly, this was a steal.

Final thoughts

This is a great drugstore palette and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a warm neutrals palette on the cheaper side. It's a mostly hassle-free palette (aside from the shimmers but even then, not that big of a problem) and the shadows look amazing on. I think this would be a great dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette. I'm definitely going to buy from Makeup Revolution again in the future!!

Have you tried Makeup Revolution? What did are your fav products?

Beauty + Skincare Haul

IMG_2579.JPG

Seeing as I forgot to post on Wednesday (I'm on vacay time *shrugs*), I thought I'd sneak in a lil special post today to make up for it!

Ever since I've arrived in Florida, which was only just under a week ago, I have visited Target twice. Twice. Let me repeat that for those who didn't hear. T W I C E. I'll also disclose that there is no Target under 30 mins away. So it's a trek. But it's worth it.

I love shopping in the U.S. as there are so many things here that we can't get in Canada (or things that are cheaper there than back home...) so it's like a totally different experience. I love poking around the beauty departments of different stores, checking out what sorts of things they've got in stock that we don't have back home or stuff that we just don't see a lot of. With that comes a lot of splurging, I'll be honest. So, from my over-excessive purchasing, I thought I'd do a bit of a haul post of the beauty and skincare items that I've picked up over the last few days!

IMG_2581.JPG

The first few things I purchased came from, you guessed it, Target. My beloved.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Contour Brush [x] - Having a little look around the e.l.f. display at Target, I found that they have a lot more brushes available in store than we typically get at my small town drugstore back home. So, I treated myself to this snazzy contour brush which was only $6 usd. I love me a good, inexpensive e.l.f. brush and this was just the sort of thing I needed.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Eyelash Curler [x] - This eyelash curler was only $2 usd!!!! Can you believe that? I knew that I needed a new eyelash curler and was dreading buying one because I didn't want to spend the $10 on one (I know, I can be weirdly frugal sometimes). But at just $2, there was no buyer's remorse here!

E.l.f. Cosmetics Eyebrow Kit in Medium [x] - Of course, I had to repurchase this fab eyebrow kit. I've talked about this over, and over again. I'd started to run out of this just before I arrived in Florida, so I definitely had to go pick this up. The kit costs $3 usd.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Kabuki Face Brush [x] - I've always wanted a kabuki brush, but had never come across one I liked and couldn't be bothered to order one online from e.l.f., so seeing this at Target made my day! I love how multi-purposeful this brush is, and also how compact it is as well. This brush cost $5.49 usd.

NYX Matte Bronzer in Medium [x] - I was in the market for a new bronzer, one of a darker shade, now that I'll be getting a tan (hopefully soon). This one is just lovely. It's a matte bronzer, which is perfect as shimmer would not look great mixed with sweat which is pretty inevitable in Florida. This bronzer set me back $6.29 usd.

Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold [x] - I picked this highlighter up sort of on a whim, after briefly hearing someone rave about it on Twitter. I've already used it and I actually LOVE it!! It's so vibrant and gorgeous. I feel like a sun goddess whenever I wear it hahaha. This bad boy cost $7.49 usd.

IMG_2580.JPG

The second, and last stop, I made for purchases was at Ulta Beauty, the American cosmetics shop.

Not Your Mother's She's A Tease Volumizing Hairspray [x] - I've already purchased this a few times before - as I'm sure you remember, I've raved about Not Your Mother's products time and time again. I was in desperate need of a hairspray after facing the horror of humidity once again, so I picked up this lovely hairspray which cost $7 usd.

Formula 10.0.6 Keep Your Cool Skin-Calming Gel Mask [x] - A few weeks ago, I saw a girl post her skincare routine on Twitter and she included a handful of Formula 10.0.6 products. Seeing how lovely her skin was, I definitely had to try this brand out! This was the first thing I picked up - a lovely coconut and cucumber gel mask. I looked at some of the peel-off masks, but frankly, they sort of scare me, lol. This mask cost $7 usd.

Formula 10.0.6 P.M. Perfector [x]The other Formula 10.0.6 item I picked up was the P.M. Perfector. I really wanted to find a new nighttime face cream, so I thought I'd try this one. It's got blackcurrant and licorice in it (??) which is kind of odd but I'm hoping it's not too bizarre of a scent! This nighttime cream set me back $9 usd.

And that's all for now! I'm very excited to try out all these lovely bits of skincare and beauty products, and I'm hoping they live up to my expectations!

What new products have you guys tried recently?

Summer Haircare Routine

IMG_2560.jpeg

Summer is a lovely season. It's the time for sun, and warmth, and having a good time. But because of all these things, it's also the time to be super careful about your hair. Although summer is great, it's no friend to your hair. There's humidity, sun, heat, and not to mention harsh pool chemicals. So in the past few summers, I've created a summer haircare routine that really works for my hair to make sure that there's no damage done to my hair!

Vibrant Sexy Hair Colour Lock Shampoo + Conditioner [x]I've been using this shampoo/conditioner set for a few months now and I absolutely love them both. The shampoo leaves my hair and scalp super clean, but doesn't strip the colour from my hair at all and even keeps my hair very moisturized. The shampoo and conditioner both have a very light rose-scent that's quite lovely and not too overpowering! I love how it makes my hair feel and how it protects my colour from the sun as well as other damage.

Not Your Mother's Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream [x]I have a huge problem with humidity during the summer - my hair goes crazy after about 5 seconds of being out in the humidity. And with spending so much time in Florida, it's even worse. But this coconut-scented cream is soo helpful. I just run a bit of this into my wet hair after showering, just before I blow-dry my hair, and it makes a world of difference. It keeps the frizz at bay, even on the most humid of days.

TIGI Bed Head Dumb Blonde Leave-In Conditioner [x]I've been using this bad boy for a very, very, very long time. Every couple washes I'll use this and it honestly is one of the best products for blonde-dyed hair. Like the Smooth Moves hair cream, I just put this into my hair when it's wet and let it do it's magic. I've had blonde highlights a few times over the years and using this product has really made the blonde less brassy and more vibrant, even. And I know I keep commenting on the smells of these products - but this one has the most incredible scent EVER.

TRESemmé Climate Control Hair Mousse [x]. I love this mousse so much. It's honestly my go-to hair product for summer humidity. It keeps your hairdo locked into shape and controls frizz without making your hair feel hard and helmet-like - I'm sure we've all been there before. Actually, this product protects your hair against more than just humidity - it also protects against UV rays (a MUST in summer), wind, and static, which is pretty cool honestly. For anyone with unruly, frizz-prone hair, this is an awesome product and I seriously recommend it.

So, those are my go-to haircare products! I pretty much use only these products throughout the summer, sometimes throwing in a couple others here and there, but this is basically it.

What products are in your summer haircare routine?

May Favourites

IMG_2423.jpeg

Hello everyone!

It's the end of May, which means that it's time for a monthly favourites wrap-up. I do love me a good favourites post, as it's so much fun to chat about what I've been loving this month and sharing it all with you guys! There's been a few things that I've really enjoyed lately, mostly music as this month was great for new music releases, but I've also got a couple beauty-related items in there for good measure!

Without further ado, let's get right to business.

TRESemmé Repair + Protect 7 Pre-Styling Spray [x] - I purchased this bad boy at my local drugstore at the beginning of the month on sale for like 2 bucks. What a deal, considering this product is actually pretty awesome! I love it because a) it's a heat protectant for when I use heat tools on my hair which is a must, and b) it makes my hair feel great afterwards! I'm seriously loving it.

Choetech Qi Certified T511 Wireless Charger Pad [x] - I've always wanted one of these wireless chargers, ever since I bought the iPhone 8+ last year, but I always assumed they were all super expensive. That is, until my bf bought an 8+ earlier this month and found this charger on Amazon. It's so cool!! All you've got to do is plug the usb into the pad and into a charger brick, then place your iPhone on it. It works with any iPhone 8/8+/X with a small case. And it was only $20!!

E.l.f. Cosmetics "Everyday Smoky" Palette [x] - Last month, I mentioned that I'd been loving the e.l.f. Cosmetics "Mad for Matte" palette, but this month I've found myself reaching more for the Everyday Smoky version. Although I haven't had a reason to go full-on smoky this month, I've been using the darker brown shades from this palette as well as the lighter shimmer shades to create everyday brown smoky looks, and I just love how it's been turning out! This palette is so easy to use and the shadows are very blendable.

Little House on the Prairie [x] - If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, I’m sure you’ve probably noticed that I’m pretty obsessed with the tv show Little House on the Prairie. I was a huge fan when I was a kid and my mum recently gifted me the entire series on iTunes, so I’ve been watching it religiously over the past month. Watching it back is giving me major nostalgic feelings about my childhood and making me remember how I used to sit in my basement with my grandma watching it for hours on end. Obviously a lot of it is historically inaccurate and the show itself is pretty outdated, but it’s definitely a fun show to watch nonetheless!

John Mayer, “New Light” - New John mayer music... YESSSS. I so wasn’t expecting him to release new music this month and it was a very happy surprise to have this pop up onto Spotify. This song is very different from his usual stuff, more disco-y honestly, but I’m definitely into it. Also, do yourself a favour and check out his music video for this song. You won’t be disappointed.

Florence + the Machine, “Hunger” - I’ve been into Florence + the Machine since I was in high school and every time she releases a new song, I’m never disappointed. Hunger is such a powerful and amazing song, especially with Florence Welsh’s voice. I love turning this up whilst I’m driving around town!!

Shawn Mendes’s new album - In case you hadn’t heard, Shawn Mendes recently dropped his third studio album this month on the 25th. And - as expected - it’s pure gold. I love his new mature sound and think that he really outdid himself on this album. It’s incredible to think that a boy from Pickering who just played guitar on Vine could come so far! Some of my fav songs off this album are “Nervous”, “Lost in Japan”, “Where Were You in the Morning?” and “Fallin’ All In You”.

Well, that’s all for May! What have you guys been loving this past month?

Empties

img_2040.jpeg

How is it that I've been writing for this blog for this long and yet I've never made an empties post?? I love reading empties posts by other bloggers. Mostly because I'm nosy af. But hey, who isn't! It's always cool to see what products other bloggers have been using and what they thought of it after using it the whole way through. Soooo today I'm going to do a post of my own!

NEUTROGENA NIGHT CALMING MAKEUP REMOVER CLEANSING TOWELETTES - I've been using Neutrogena's makeup remover wipes for a while now, but this was my first time purchasing the 'night calming' ones. I actually liked them better than the original ones!! They have a really lovely scent, which is supposed to help you sleep but it's debatable whether or not it actually works, haha. Neutrogena is by far my fav brand when it comes to makeup removing wipes as they're really gentle on sensitive skin but clean off makeup really thoroughly. I'll def be buying these again!!

MAYBELLINE BABY SKIN INSTANT PORE ERASER PRIMER - I picked this up on a whim a while back and ended up actually really liking it! It's not something I'd use for heavy duty makeup or if I was trying to make my makeup last for several hours. But for casual, day-to-day use, I think it works pretty well! It definitely made my skin feel really soft and smooth, so that was cool. And the bottle looks so tiny, but it holds a shocking amount of product in there. I kept thinking that it was nearly empty but it held up for a while yet.

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL MASCARA - My go-to mascara!! I just picked up a replacement for this bad boy, as I simply cannot be without it. I've been using this for a long time and I talked about it recently in my Holy Grail Beauty Products post (x). I just love it. I'll probably be repurchasing this over and over again for the foreseeable future.

GARNIER MICELLAR WATER FOR OILY SKIN - This has been sitting near-empty in my makeup drawer for wayyyy too long. So it's time to part ways with this. I was really into the Micellar water trend for a while, particularly during the spring and summer seasons of last year. But I don't know, it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I'm over it. Won't be repurchasing this again. Neutrogena wipes have my heart, sorry micellar water!!

What products have you used up entirely?

Strolling Through Port Dover

img_1960.jpeg

Welcome back loves! The weather has been absolutely gorgeous as of late!! I cannot believe we've finally been having consistently nice days. It's honestly the talk of my town, no joke. Anywhere you go, you can guarantee that somebody is going to bring up how nice the weather has been.

The other day, my mum, my boyfriend, and I decided we would do a little day trip together as my dad was out of town. Port Dover is a very small lakeside town on the northern shore of Lake Erie. My parents took a trip out there last year after we moved into our new house, and they absolutely loved it so I thought that since the weather was nice, I should take a trip down to see what all the fuss is about!!

It's about a forty minute drive down my county's main highway, which literally cuts down the middle of a bunch of towns so we had really lovely views of some cute small towns on the way there.

As soon as we got to Port Dover, I decided I loved it. I'm a huge sucker for small towns (obviously, since I moved to one) and especially local boutiques and cute restaurants. Port Dover is full of them!!! We walked down the main road right by the beach and popped into about a dozen small shops with clothes, soaps, home decor, antiques, basically anything you could think of. I'm obsesseddddddd. I took so many pictures of all the different shops we stopped at, so you guys can also enjoy the literal heaven that is Port Dover.

It was just so beautiful and it had that really lovely small town feel (a woman came into a shop with her dog and the shop owner told us that he comes to visit her every day and she leaves out water for him omg I'm crying). It was a pretty lovely day to visit, although it was super windy which was not good for the dress I was wearing and the locals saw way more of me than they'd bargained for haha.

On our way back home, we stopped at a little local restaurant, The Argyle Street Grill. I've passed this place about a hundred times before and finally suggested we popped in there for a late lunch. It was soo good, even though I didn't even love my meal haha. My mum and I ordered drinks as my boyfriend was lovely enough to be the DD (thanks babe!!) and they were amazingggg. My mum had the strawberry margarita and I had a spiked raspberry lemonade, which is probably now one of my fav drinks ever. For my entree, I had a small bowl of asiago chicken linguine that was not my fav and a bowl of Caesar salad which was reallyyyy good. It was the perf way to end off the day, and I'll definitely be heading back there for dinner sometime!

What I Wore:
• Polka Dot Wrap Dress (x - out of stock in blue)
• Nine West Crossbody Handbag (x - similar)
• NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Kitten Heels (x)

April Favourites

img_1971.jpeg

Happy May, everyone! I'm sure all of you have heard/seen the "It's Gonna Be May" meme a thousand times in the past few days so I'll spare you guys from having to hear it again. But do know that I'm definitely thinking it right now, haha.

I'm back with another favourites post for you guys!! I've been on a bit of a "no spend" trend this month as I dropped a small fortune on dresses other things the past couple months and now I'm broke af. Soo these are all products that I've already owned for a while, but they have found their way into my regular rotation as of late!

MARC JACOBS HONEY PERFUME - I love this perfume so so so much. I bought this last year while I was in NYC and have been utterly obsessed ever since. But with spring officially arriving this month, I've been getting a lot of use out of this pretty scent. It's described online as being a mix of "nectars of honeysuckle and peach, honey, vanilla, and smooth woods" - it's so lovely.

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM IN "SAN PAULO" AND "ANTWERP" - These two have been the lipsticks I've reached for most this past month, as I've been loving bright, bold shades for this weather. San Paulo is described as a "plummy pink" whereas Antwerp is a "mid-tone yellow-toned pink"...which is pretty much just a bright pink. They're fairly long-lasting and not at all drying on the lips which makes them the perfect lightweight lippy for a nice spring day!

E.L.F. COSMETICS MAD FOR MATTE EYESHADOW PALETTE - I talked a bit about how much I've been loving this palette in my Spring Makeup Look post (x). This is by far my most used palette of April, followed closely behind by the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. I feel like burnt orange and brown shades really go with brown eyes - am I crazy, haha?? Anyway, it's been getting a hell of a lot of use lately and I'm sure that'll probably be the case next month as well!!

E.L.F. COSMETICS MAKEUP BRUSHES - I've been really loving E.l.f. brushes this month! They're honestly great brushes, especially for how inexpensive and easily accessible they are. At least 9 times outta 10, when I pop into my local drugstore, I walk out with a new E.l.f. makeup brush haha. Some of my favourites are the Blending Brush, the Blush Brush, the Highlighting Brush, and the Eyeshadow "C" Brush.

What products have you guys been loving this month?! x

Spring Makeup Look

img_1868.jpeg

Hello lovelies!! Things have been crazy lately, which is why I haven't been posting so much. I know that I'm constantly saying "I'm so busy, pls forgive me!!" but honestly, I have been. It's all about finding that balance between life and blogging, y'know?

Spring has been coming around here, slowly but surely. Last week, we were having some lovely weather, like 14C-18C, which is great for spring here. But next week we're apparently set to have some really nice weather, more like 20C to even 26C, which is veryy exciting! I'm hoping to maybe shoot and post a spring lookbook sort of post sometime next week (weather permitting - fingers crossed!), so look out for that!! :)

For now, I thought I'd write up a post talking about my typical spring makeup look.

Jumping right in. I always start off with my eyebrows for some reason haha. I've been using the E.l.f. Cosmetics Eyebrow Kit for about a year now and I'm obsessed. I totally ignore the powder side (lol) and instead use the cream to just fill in the sparse bits of my brows with an angled brush, then I run a spoolie brush through them to disperse the product. The cream is really long-lasting and stays in place, whereas other cream brow products tend to shift on your face which is a no-no.

Next up, I prime my face. I much prefer cream-based primers as opposed to sprays. One of my fav cream primers is the Maybelline FaceStudio Master Prime Blur + Illuminate Face Primer (phew, whatta mouthful). Before I apply any face makeup, I just apply this to my entire face, rubbing it all in until it's absorbed. This one, in particular, makes for a really dewy makeup look, which I love for the spring and summer seasons.

Moving on from face, for now, I move onto eye products. I've been really loving the E.l.f. Cosmetics Mad For Matte Eyeshadow Palette (which is now being called the "Mad for Matte Nude Bloom" palette). I love the warm tones of this palette, especially the burnt-orange shade and the pink-y sort of shades. I take that burnt-orange and blend it into my crease, then blend a bit of the dark brown into the outer v. I finish it all off with that pink shade on my lid. Once I've finished with the shadows, I go for a thin cat-eye with my Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Eyeliner. I used to do cat-eye looks all the time in high school, but stopped for awhile, and now I'm back doing it again I guess! Haha.

While I let my liner dry a bit, I go onto my face. I've been using the Rimmel London 25hr Breathable Foundation for the past couple months, which I reviewed here. I blend that all over my face with a blending sponge - I use the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge - and then I cover up all my spots and such with the Maybelline New York Better Skin Concealer. Once I've finished up with all that, I go in with a bit of bronzer and blush - for bronzer, lately I've been getting a lot of use out of my Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer which I've had for ages, and for blush, I use my fav E.l.f. Cosmetics Candid Coral Blush which I'm sure I've talked about before. After, I brush on some Too Faced Translucent Smoothing Finishing Powder so soften the harshness of my blush and bronzer. And I pop on some E.l.f. Cosmetics Shimmer in Gold on my cheekbones and Cupid's bow.

Going back to my eyes, I like to brush a bit of that orange-y shade from before just under my eyes, with a thin angled brush just to add some depth to the look. Then I go in with an eyelash curler and finish up with a coat of the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara.

And that's it! Here's the final look...

fullsizerender.jpeg

(Don't mind my bangs as they seriously need to be trimmed, haha) So there ya have it. Very simple to do, doesn't take very long at all, and it's a bright look for spring!

5 Holy Grail Beauty Products

fullsizerender-1.jpeg

Hello everybody! Today, I thought I'd talk about five of my holy grail beauty products, mostly from drugstore brands. I've been using these products consistently for a very long time, some for a couple years now, and they have never failed me. These are pretty much my all-time favourite products, ones that I use pretty much on a daily basis!

Let's just jump right in then, shall we?

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL MASCARA

I've heard many a beauty blogger rave about this bad boy and about a year ago, I decided to give it a shot. At first, I found it quite clumpy and heavy on the lashes, but I find it just takes some getting used to. If you apply it with a light hand, you should easily be able to get a clump-free look! I love this mascara in particular because it separates my lashes (again, light handedness necessary!!) and really darkens them. Personally, length isn't an issue for me as I have very long natural eyelashes, but I've found this makes them appear even longer.

MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY BETTER SKIN CONCEALER

I've been a die-hard fan of the Better Skin concealer for some time now. I think it's a lovely, lightweight concealer for brightening and also covering up blemishes, without being too harsh and heavy on the skin. What I love best about it, however, is that it's considered safe for sensitive eyes and skin, both of which I have and dealing with them is a nightmare. I've def had far less of an issue with irritated eyes or skin whilst using this!

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS GLOW KIT

This one is an oldie, but a goodie!! I actually first purchased this original ABH Glow Kit in my senior year of high school, as a bit of a post-exam treat for myself, and I immediately fell in love. I know it was sorta hyped up back when it came out, but it is a lovely product nonetheless. I love the shades in this kit, as they are more gold/pink, which is more up my alley than the white or metallic shades of other palettes. My personal fav is "Dripping in Gold" which I've sadly recently hit pan on :(

COLOURPOP ULTRA SATIN LIP

I love ColourPop. They're by far one of my favourite inexpensive makeup brands of all-time. And $6 is a small price to pay for their incredible liquid lippies. The formula of their Ultra Satin Lip is really quite nice. Personally, I don't find it very drying on the lips, and it's definitely long-lasting. Not to mention the shades are absolutely beautiful!!! I find that they have so many options, which makes this range so versatile.

MAYBELLINE FACESTUDIO MASTER PRIME FACE PRIMER BLUR + ILLUMINATE

This doubles as a highlighting product and a primer, which is pretty cool. If I want just a pop of highlight, I'll just blend in a spot of this on my cheekbones and on my brow bone. But if I want a really dewy overall look, I'll use this as a primer and apply it all over my face, before putting on my foundation. I think it gives the perfect amount of glow for a spring or summer makeup look, so I use this a lot during the summer season!

My Favourite Brands || Beauty & Fashion

img_1748.jpg

Hey guys! Today, I thought I'd do a little round-up post of my favourite brands for beauty and fashion items, along with some of my fav items available on their sites - either ones that I own or am just lusting after!

Too Faced

Ohhh how I love Too Faced. Their eye palettes are just divine. I think probably the thing that keeps bringing me back to this brand is the fact that they have so many products with wonderful scents to them - Sweet Peach, Chocolate Bar, and all those lovely bits. So creative!! I've been using their products for quite a few years now and I've found that they've really increased in quality over time and they have far more diverse products than they did back in 2013 when I first started shopping there. My fav product is the Too Faced Natural Love palette, which I use 90% of the time, even if it's just for a shade or two.

PRODUCTS I LOVE: SWEET PEACH / NATURAL LOVE / BETTER THAN SEX

Tarte

I've talked on here before about how much I love Tarte, so I'll keep this short and sweet. I particularly am a fan of their eye and face palettes, which I feel they have a great variety of, and all their products are really good quality, too. Their Amazonian Clay blushes are probably my fav blushes out there, as they have so many different shades and they're very easy to blend out. Although their products are a bit pricier than my very tight budget can allow, I do like to treat myself to a lil something every now and then!

PRODUCTS I LOVE: AMAZONIAN CLAY 12-HR BLUSH / TARTLETTE

Uniqlo

Uniqlo has quickly become one of my favourite brands in the past year or so. For those who aren't familiar, Uniqlo is a Japanese brand of casual attire that has become widely popular in the States, and I think here in Canada, too, in the past few years. I got hooked on the brand because I'd browse their Disney t-shirts at their shop in Disney Springs, and then I started to venture further into the store, to find that the rest of their clothes were ALSO amazing. What are the odds, haha. I've picked up a few things from Uniqlo over time, all of which I love dearly and I wear pretty much all of the time, esp in Florida. They're also a very inexpensive brand which is a bonus, for sure!

PIECES I LOVE: WIDE LEG PANTS / BEAUTY & THE BEAST TEE / MINNIE MOUSE TEE

Zara

Of course, I had to include Zara on here because I just love it! I feel like Zara can sometimes be a hit or miss, as their stores are quite big and have a very wide variety of items, some of which can be a little too ~out there~ for my style. But I find that it helps if you have an idea of what you're looking for going in. I've had a lot of luck lately, particularly at the Disney Springs location haha which is so odd but pretty useful! Their clothes are very stylish and I usually find at least a handful of things that I love whenever I go in.

PIECES I LOVE: LINEN TROUSERS WITH DRAWSTRING / CREPE TROUSERS

Joe Fresh

This is probably a brand that most people wouldn't really consider, or even know of, but in this past year, it's become a fav of mine. I find that they have a lot of lovely casual, or business-casual, style pieces, and the majority of their clothes are quite "girly" which is very much up my alley. Another thing that really draws me to this brand is how often they put their items on sale - only a couple months after a line is released - and the sale prices simply can't be beaten. Since, as I mentioned, I don't have a ton of mony to put towards fashion or beauty lately, I love that I can buy a lot of items there for the price that I could only buy a few for somewhere else!

PIECES I LOVE: PURPLE RAIN BOOT / SUEDE BLOCK HEELS

March Favourites

img_1730.jpg

Hello everybody, and happy beginning of April!! Despite the fact that it's officially been spring for a while now, we're having the most horrid day out today, with blistering wind and snow - I repeat, SNOW... in April. Will the weather ever warm up??!! On a brighter note, I've got a handful of wonderful products to share with you that I was loving throughout March. I'll cut the rambling now, and jump right into it!

TOO FACED SWEET PEACH PALETTE

An oldie, but def a goodie. This past month, I've been really into pink and orange eye looks, so I've been reaching for this bad boy a lot. The shades in this palette are downright fab and so versatile. I've been able to create a bunch of different eye looks, using just this palette, for the past week or so without repeating any! So, I obvs had to give this a mention and perhaps inspire you guys to dig this one out of the bottom of your collection and show it some luv!!

E.L.F COSMETICS "CANDID CORAL" BLUSH

Continuing on with the pink and orange trend... I've been using this blush a LOT recently. It's a beautiful coral shade, which I imagine would be so gorgeous with a tan (if the sun ever does emerge!!). It really compliments my skin tone and I can imagine it would on really anyone's, for that matter. It's so simple and shimmery and beautiful.

EOS ORGANIC VANILLA BEAN LIP BALM

Recently, on a trip out to Costco, I picked up a mega pack of EOS lip balms as my lips have been feeling quite dry and sad lately. I love the scent of vanilla and so it's no surprise at all that this one was my favourite. I've kept this at my bedside this past month, so I can swipe on a coat before bed and it's been really doing wonders for improving my lip dryness!

ESSIE "PEACH SIDE BABE" NAIL POLISH

I recently picked up this gorg shade of Essie nail polish and I'm in love. This peachy, pink is the perf shade for spring. Essie is one of my fav brands of nail polish, second only to OPI. I can't wait to wear this throughout the spring and summer seasons!!

LOVE, SIMON

This month, I went out with my boyfriend on a date to see Love, Simon in theatres. I'm sure almost all of you have heard about this film, but if not, here's the gist - it's a teen rom-com about a boy named Simon who's hiding from everyone that he's gay, but he's secretly anonymously e-mailing another boy in school who's gay. Last month, I reviewed the book this was based on, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, for my blog and I seriously loved it. And honestly, the movie was soo good!! It was a really great adaptation and I'm so happy it exists bc LGBT representation in films is so rare, and this is a great step forward! It was adorable, and sweet, and charming, and funny, and heart-wrenching. Seriously GO SEE THIS MOVIE! :)

5 Lipsticks for Springtime

img_1669.jpg

Springtime is officially here!! I cannot express how excited I am for warm weather, the blooming flowers, and finally being able to wash my car - priorities y'all. Although spring isn't my #1 favourite season, it is up there. I love that everything starts to thaw and come back to life. But, most importantly, I love the chance to lighten up my makeup. Throughout the winter, I tend to wear darker eyeshadows and lipsticks. But spring is when all the pinks come out to play.

So, today I thought I'd share some of my fav spring lippy shades!

img_1670.jpg

REVLON ULTRA HD MATTE LIPCOLOUR - "SEDUCTION"

The first lipstick is one of my top shades ever. This was actually the lipstick that I wore to my senior prom a couple years ago and I loved wearing it. It's a very subtle, natural shade and it lasted the entire night, through a meal, drinks, and dancing, with only having to reapply once. For a matte liquid lipstick, it doesn't dry out your lips which makes it easier to reapply as you won't have chapped lips to bother with. As a bonus, it has a lovely fruit punch scent - although, after reading reviews, I've learned that half of the people loved it and half hated it, so that's something to be cautious of!!

Ulta, $9.99

RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH BY KATE MOSS - "45"

Do you guys remember when these Kate Moss lippies first came out?? They were sooo popular. And I was hella obsessed haha. One of the ones that I've continued to regularly reach for over time is the shade 45. It's from the Nude collection and it's quite honestly a perfect pink-nude. It's a lovely cream formula, very long-lasting too. I love me a natural pink lip shade and this certainly delivers!

Walmart, $5.98

TOPSHOP LIPS - "MINK"

I may have mentioned before (maybe?? who knows) that I love the Topshop lipstick line. It's not something I've come by easily - the first one I bought was in London and the second in NYC - but whenever I get the chance, I take the opportunity to buy a new shade. In NYC, I picked up the shade "Mink". This is a lighter shade compared to the two I just mentioned, but very lovely all the same. The only problem is that this shade doesn't appear to be available online anymore... However, the shade "Coven" appears to be a very close match, so I've linked that below!

Topshop, $15

L'OREAL INFALLIBLE MEGA GLOSS - "GIRL ON TOP"

This is more of a lip gloss than a lipstick, and though I don't typically like lip glosses, this one isn't particularly sticky so it's all good. I love the baby pink shade of it and that it's quite sheer. I think it's a very girly colour, which would go really well with a flowy skirt or dressing for going out on a lovely spring night (can you tell I'm eager for warm weather?? lol). The only issue is that it's not very long-lasting or transfer-proof, so it requires a lot of reapplications.

L'OREAL PARIS COLOUR RICHE SERUM - "BEAMY PLUM"

Overall, I love the L'Oreal Colour Riche line. I have a couple of shades, but "Beamy Plum" is for sure one of my favourites. It's a very balmy, hydrating formula in a mauve pink. It kinda gives you that bare lip look without having a bare lip - which, idk about you, but I love it. It's really long-lasting and personally, it compliments my skin haha. Although this shade doesn't appear to be available anymore, I would def recommend basically any shade from this range.

February Favourites

img_1504-1.jpg

Another month, another bunch of favourite products to share with you guys!! I'm v excited to share these with you guys, as I've had a pretty successful month in terms of trying out new products. The first product I've been loving in February is the Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Tapioca Dry Shampoo. Good gracious, that's a mouthful. I've owned this dry shampoo before, but not since they updated it and added on the "tapioca". They also changed the scent, which is pretty cool because although I did like the original scent, I am seriously obsessed with the new Warm Sugar scent. This dry shampoo leaves no white residue and does such a great job at freshening up second-day hair.

Another hair care product I've been unable to live without recently is the Vibrant Sexy Hair Colour Lock Trio. This includes the Vibrant Sexy Hair Colour Lock Shampoo, Vibrant Sexy Hair Colour Lock Conditioner, and Vibrant Sexy Hair Colour Guard Post Colour Sealer. These three in-shower products are meant to be used together to keep your colour-treated hair stay looking fresh out of the salon for as long as possible. They're all SLS and SLES free, which is really important, and they smell pretty amazing. Since I've started using these, I've actually noticed a difference in both the vibrancy and the overall quality of my hair!!

I know I only picked this up quite recently, but I have fallen head over heels in love with the Lush Eau Roma Water toner that I featured in my haul post. I've been using this twice daily since I bought it, in the morning and before I head to bed, and I swear it's already made a visible difference to my skin! My skin has already been getting close to clearing up (thank Jesus) but this has only sped up the process even more. It's very gentle on the skin and quite refreshing. Two thumbs up on this one.

Moving onto non-beauty related products... I've recently been taking steps to become more mindful and positive, to help with my anxiety, and something that's really been helping me with that is the 52 Lists for Happiness by Moorea Seal. This is a sort of guided journal where you follow weekly prompts for list-making which help to bring balance into your life. I've only been using it now a few weeks, but I'm loving it so far! Not only is it super helpful, but the journal itself is beautiful with its hardcover bounding, and gorgeous photos and illustrations on every page.

Definitely a more random favourite of mine lately has been Milk Chocolate Covered Raisins. These were the candies I always reached for at the movie theatre when I was a kid. Recently, I got such a craving for these bad boys, so my mum picked them out for me one day while she was out and I've since been in heaven.

Last, but certainly not least, is the beloved Disney film, Lady and the Tramp. This was one of my all-time favourite films as a kid because it's a film about DOGS. How can you not love it? Lady is just the sweetest little thing ever. Disney recently released this from the vault and I picked it up on it's release day. I went all the way out to the mall - which is 30 mins away - then all the way to Walmart - which is another 20 mins away from the mall - where I finally found it!! Thank god. Haha

What products have you guys been loving lately?
